10 Days of Homeschooling For First Year Families Day 7 Schedules

Good morning, I thought we would take yesterday off so this morning I am back with Day 7 of the 10 Days of Homeschooling For First Year Families. This morning I thought we would to talk about “Schedules”.   I would like to remind you, when you begin Homeschooling your children to make sure you have a schedule in place.  With a schedule it will make teaching your children much smoother and less chaotic. Also, if will help both you and your children from ending up frustrated or angry. As this happened in our home because I didn’t have a schedule when we first started homeschooling. Although I learned pretty quickly I needed to put one in place as both Charlie and I was angry with each other as well as school. Poor David even ended up feeling our wrath.

Five tips for creating a schedule:

  1. Set a routine for school hours and stick to this schedule unless something comes up and you just can’t homeschool that day. As for Charlie and I we have changed our schedule and school hours several times and may change them again. Although once we decide on the time we will do school we will not answer the phone or have the computer or tv on unless it is for school.
  2. There is no company allowed over and all pets are removed from the classroom as they can be distracting.
  3. I have all the items Charlie needs out for that day on the table so we do not have to get up and hunt for things.
  4. Lunch is prepared as well as Breakfast and we each have a Bottle of water and a snack and only get up for the restroom. Unless we are doing PE.
  5. If I am teaching Charlie that day David stays out of the school room which is our Dinning Room table. and on the days David is teaching Charlie I stay away.
  6. Here is a bonus tip for you has been a lifesaver for Charlie and I is having a dedicated space for our Homeschooling.  Our dedicated space  is our Dinning Room table and each night before we end school we make sure all of our Homeschooling items are put back in there places.

Once a week we do a Deep Cleaning of the classroom. and  this helps us know which items are missing or needs replaced or ordered if we are out of something. Also it allows Charlie to rearrange things or hang his artwork.

You can set your classroom up one way and find it isn’t working for you and move it and redo it. As I have done this a lot with Charlies classroom. Along with adding  new items to our classroom  as I can afford them.

I am blessed as I do have a dedicated office in my home that can be turned into a schoolroom but the dinning room works better for Charlie and I both for Homeschooling  and my work. So this is where you will find us most every day.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
