5 Tips to Keep Our Pets Safe in Summer!

It is so hot here I feel sorry for our dogs.  And because of the heat we seem to keep the dogs inside much more than I like. But putting them outside even with a bowl of ice water doesn’t keep them cool. So today I wanted to share with you 5 Tips to Keep Our Pets Safe in Summer!

So today as it is 106 degrees outside in Haltom City, Texas (Dallas/ Fort Worth). And our yard is mostly sand with very little grass for the dogs to go to and lie down on. I have kept them inside. And we do have dog houses but they do not like going inside them and it could be that it is even hotter inside them than laying out in the yard.

So this week I plan on going and purchasing collars and leashes for all the dogs so we can take them walking. Because then they will get some exercise and be able to come inside and cool down once we return home.

So today I thought I would share some tips with you to help keep our pets safe from the Heat.

  1. Make sure you have Flea and Tick medicines for your animals and use it on them the way it says. And don’t forget these little buggers will come inside and they will bite us. So make sure and keep not only your animals safe but yourself as well. Now here is a tip I would like to share with you I learned from a friend you can still get fleas inside your home if you do not have dogs and cats. And I didn’t know that did you?
  2. My dog Sandi is white and she burns very quickly while out in the Sun so this year I want to check with the vet or one of the local pet stores and find out what type of  items I should put on here before we head outside. As I have heard there is dog sunscreen which I didn’t know about till I was online the other day. So I know I need to purchase some for Sandi and soon.
  3.  Make sure you have water everywhere your animals will be. And this includes when out walking. As I purchased a collapsible bowl for our dogs. And I also keep more than one bowl of water outside for them as we have 8 dogs and I want to make sure there is plenty of water for each of the dogs. As well as any stray cats that come up. Or even birds and squirrels as they also need water.
  4. Also if you are taking your dog with you on a Picnic pack them there own foods do not give them foods off the table as some of the items we eat can be harmful to our pets. And not only give them a stomachs but can be deadly to our animals. And don’t leave food around for stray animals you see as it can also  hurt them.
  5. Something else I have to be careful of is giving into Sandi and taking her with me when I run errands. As leaving her in the car she can get to hot and end up with heat exhaution. So even though you love your pets and want to take them with you. Make sure to leave them at home if you can’t take them inside with you. Because they can die inside a car and it doesn’t take long at all for this to happen.

Now I am sure there is a lot of other tips I can post here for you. Or that you can share with us but I didn’t want to overwhelm you. So I hope these 5 Tips to Keep Our Pets Safe in Summer! helps you think before you take your animals outside and if you would like to add your thoughts Please do in the comments below. And if you have a picture of your pets come and share them with Charlie and I.

Thank you,
