Charlie Is Not Wanting To Read At Home

Charlie’s teachers are fussing with Charlie on his reading. Which is upsetting me. I don’t see them helping Charlie the way I think they should. Tomorrow we have to go  to the school to find out what is going on in reading and math.

Before I do that I plan on sitting down and talking to Charlie which  will not do me any good to go to school if things do not change at home. Which means working on both math and reading each and every day.

I have to run out and pick up a reading comprehension workbook as the one we had Charlie has finished. Before you say there are websites online I can use. I’m aware of that but Charlie needs to have the physical papers in front of him then Charlie can do the things his teacher ask him to do.

I was online over the weekend I found out about a Reading Challenge hosted by Sara Mackenzie called The 2017 RAR 31-Day Challenge. I would like to invite you to join my family as we sign up for the challenge this week.

I love that this challenge has our children read aloud as which means we know they’re reading and that they’re saying the words the words the correct way and understanding what they’re reading as we can ask them questions.

I wanted to share a little bit about what they said about last years challenge:

After the challenge was over, they told us that their kids went from kind-of-sort-of-occasionally reading for fun to being unstoppable.

Our 31-day challenged helped kids gain fluency at warp speeds.

During the month of January, we encourage kids to read aloud every day for at least 15 minutes. They can read to anyone- Grandpa, the neighbor, a sibling,  the cat, the goldfish, their stuffed animals, their action figures– it doesn’t matter who they share their stories with. What matters is that they share them- out loud, every day.

Kids who read aloud for at least 25 of the 31 days in January can enter for a chance to win one of our prizes. This year, we’ll have 50 winners and over $1000 in prizes.

Any kids age 1-17 can participate.

If your child isn’t reading on his/her own yet, they can still play along! All they need to do is “read” a book aloud by flipping through the pages and talking about the pictures. Learning to tell stories from pictures is a nourishing and beautiful way to engage with stories- and around here, it definitely counts as reading aloud.

Now if your children would like to see the prizes they can win Please check out this link here and as they pick out the prizes they would like to win ask them why and what books they plan on reading to be able to enter the Giveaway for these prizes.

Share about your kids participating in the challenge. Tag your Facebook and Instagram photos #RAR31Days so that we can find you.

Now, I want to share a little bit about the reason I want Charlie to enter this new challenge and it is because he struggles with Reading and I am not sure what level he is on at school but I do know he isn’t where he should be.

So I think this challenge will give Charlie the confidence to read at any time anywhere which is what I do. Plus I hope the challenge motivates David to sit down and read each day as he can’t read but if he tries to learn it will motivate Charlie and bring them closer together.

I would like to thank you for reading “Charlie Is Not Wanting To Read At Home” Please let me know if you have your children enter the challenge as the kids can talk about the books they are reading and help keep each other accountable.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
