In our classroom Charlie wanted to study Football this week. The Superbowl will be happening and even though I should have shared this lesson plan last week because the Superbowl is this weekend.
It’s okay if were behind times as long as Charlie is learning. I have a question for you this morning. Have you studied Football with your students? If so do you have any resources you could share with me?
The Super Bowl: The First Fifty Years of America’s Greatest Game
In 1966, as the champions of the AFL and NFL prepared to play each other for the first time, Kansas City Chiefs–owner Lamar Hunt wrote the following to Commissioner Pete Rozelle: “I have kiddingly called [the championship game] the Super Bowl, which obviously can be improved upon.”
How wrong Hunt was. After the AFL merged with the NFL, “Super Bowl” became the official title of the NFL championship game in the years to come.

Reading
Visit your local library if you do not have a book about Football find one and read the book and once you have finished reading the novel. Then writes how long you read on your Reading Log.
Write down 5 facts you learned from the book you read.
Art
Pretend you are a Coach of a Football Team you must name your team and design a jersey for them to wear.
Then write out a Cheer for the Cheerleaders to perform at Half Time.
Math
Design a Menu of Foods to be sold at the Concession Stand including Prices.
Then have some ordered food from you and practice giving them back there change.
Art Design a ticket to your Superbowl and include Facts about the City it is being hosted in.
Music:
Combine a song that will be played at the Beginning of your Football Games
Then teach your song to your parents.

Seven-layer Mexican dips are always a hit, but try this idea from Wholly Guacamole make it fit a football theme. Spread a layer of guacamole across the top of the dip to mimic turf, then create the lines of the gridiron by placing sour cream in a plastic sandwich bag, poking a small hole in one corner of the bag and squeezing the sour cream onto the top of the guacamole. A couple of goal posts made from chopsticks or small dowels will drive home the theme.
