Hotel-Quality Sleep At Home

There are plenty of things that make a family vacation special. You’re able to see the world, experience new things with your loved ones, broaden your horizons – and enjoy a blissful night of sleep in your hotel room.

The ability to provide comfortable accommodation is crucial to the success of a hotel, so this area receives a huge amount of focus. As a result of this hard work, spending a night in a hotel can be incredibly refreshing, enjoyable – and possible to recreate in your own home, if you follow these simple tips…

Remove clutter from your bedroom

Hotel rooms tend to be rather sparse. Guests are provided with the essential furniture they require during their stay, and very little else. This minimalist approach could be related to why you find it so easy to relax and get to sleep in a hotel room, so it may be worth considering a thorough declutter of your bedroom in an effort to create the same calm environment.

Invest in a quality mattress

Hotels know that they have to promise a good night’s rest to their customers; if they don’t, they will likely find themselves on the receiving end of an angry online review. To prevent this, hotels tend to invest in high-quality mattresses that incorporate the best available technological advancements. If you wish to enjoy the same quality of sleep at home as you would in a hotel, then you may want to consider upgrading to a memory foam mattress from a reputable brand. As well as ensuring you will sleep well, many people find that memory foam mattresses keep them cooler in bed, so keep that in mind too.

Limit your pillows

The vast majority of hotels will only provide a single pillow to their guest. If you are accustomed to sleeping with multiple pillows, then you may struggle to adjust to a single – but the hotel policy has likely worked in your favor here. Experts commonly agree that, when it comes to pillows to support your head and neck, one is actually the magic number. You may want to use a second pillow to support your knees if you are a side-sleeper, but a single head pillow should be more than sufficient for most people – to remove your multiple pillows at home and see if this improves your sleeping experience.

Go to bed earlier

So far, we have looked at the components of the hotel room environment – but it is also worth considering behavior. While we all have occasional late nights on vacation, there is every chance you will go to sleep earlier than usual. After all, you need to ensure you have as much of the day free for relaxing on the beach or touring the local historical sites, so an early night tends to be a proactive proposition – and this may contribute to why you feel more rested after spending a night in a hotel. It’s worth experimenting with the concept at home; try going to bed half an hour earlier than you normally would, then evaluate if it has made a difference to your quality of sleep.

In conclusion

If you have always found that you sleep incredibly well in a hotel room, then the tips above could help you emulate the conditions that are so beneficial. If you choose to implement these, you should be able to enjoy all the health and well-being benefits that high-quality sleep is able to bring to your life – enjoy!

  1. These are some great tips – I definitely find that I relax more when the room is less cluttered, otherwise I lay and think I should really look at sorting all that clutter out!

  2. Studies have found that less clutter in the bedroom does help one get a better nights sleep. Having a good mattress and pillow does help a bunch of course.

  3. I can sleep well in a hotel. I love how the bed just sort of wraps around you and basically hugs you all night. This is not a bad idea to do at home.

  4. I love this post! Right off the bat I see that I am using too many pillows! We did just change our mattress, so that has helped. I sleep at my brothers once a week and it is very uncomfortable, I have to try these strategies for that situation!

  5. I haven’t thought about creating a bedroom that is like a motel room. That’s a good idea. My guest room is a little like that but my bedroom is a mess.

  6. These are some great tips. I really don’t sleep much better in hotel rooms though. There’s usually loud guests that keep me up at some point during the night. Or the walls are super thin and you can hear whenever a toilet flushes.

    1. Mine is at least 3 years old but so many people sleep on it including animals that we need a new one and I would like to get a Memory Foam mattress.

  7. These are all wonderful tips. I think that it’s so important to invest in a good quality mattress. It makes such a wonderful difference.

    1. Thank you, Tasheena and I am glad the tips were good and yes, a good mattress does make a difference in how we feel and how we sleep.

  8. I need a good mattress, I have a lot of trouble sleeping. Hotels are good about keeping it simple.

  9. It’s really important to invest in a mattress that will help you sleep better at night. It’s going to improve your sleep so much and it helps with your health too! Love these tips!

  10. One of the reasons I love to stay at a hotel is for the amazing beds! Thank you for this. I once asked a hotel what kind of sheets they used and went and bought them. Best investment ever!

    1. Your welcome Maddy and I love the sheets as well and should ask the next time we visit a Hotel because we need new sheets on all of our beds and the ones at the store aren’t the best and sometimes they don’t fit the bed the way they should.

    1. The ones we have visited do between one and four and if not if you ask for extra’s most of the time they will bring you more. Although I never like to ask.

  11. I have to replace my mattress asap and I have been window shopping online for a great mattress and will check your recommendation out. I hate sleeping in hotels but love the way the rooms are presented

  12. I love all of these tips! I finally have all my bedroom furniture in and my room unpacked so I feel more at home on my new place. That has helped me get a good night’s sleep for sure!
