Log Cabin Museum Fort Worth, Texas

I would like to share another place to take your family. For mine, we will be visiting Log Cabin Museum for a Field Trip for Homeschooling. The Log Cabin Villages is also a place I haven’t ever been to even though it is right around the corner from our home. It is also close to the Fort Worth Zoo and Botanical Gardens. I would love to take a full day and for us to go and explore all three places.

I think Charlie would enjoy visiting each of these places as well and there is even a Train we could ride. We could gather information for three different lessons in Homeschooling. This Field Trip would allow Charlie to see some of the History of Fort Worth. For us to get our Exercise in as there would be plenty of walking.

Let’s all take a day to explore the Log Cabin Village, The Fort Worth Zoo, and the Botanical Gardens and see what we can teach our students and what we learn ourselves.

In the 1950s, the Village was a project of the Pioneer Texas Heritage Committee and members of the Tarrant County Historical Society. Members of these organizations realized that log structures, which were prevalent in the 1800s, were rapidly vanishing from the Texas landscape – and a portion of Texas history was vanishing with them. That is why they decided to create a Village dedicated to log cabin culture, history and preservation.

Special family events take place one Saturday a month from September through June. During these events, the Village comes even more alive with additional historical interpreters, artisan demonstrations, hands-on activities, and crafts to take home. Themes vary month-to-month, so you’ll want to attend them all! Past themes have included trading, architecture, herbs, corn, candle-dipping, and more!

Before you take the children to visit the Log Cabin make sure you click on the tab that says Pepper’s Place and print out the booklet of things for the children to do. And have them turn it in for a “Certificate’ once it is finished. And even if you do not visit the Log Cabins, you can still print the packet out at home and do the work as you can use the Library or Internet.
