Finding Your Hero

I would like to introduce you to a new children’s Author Jamie Schwandt, Ed.D. You will find his novel inside this years Holiday Gift Guide twice as he has a book for parents called Succeeding As A Foster Child and also a children’s book called Finding Your Hero.

As soon as I saw the title of this  children’s book I thought this would be a story Charlie would enjoy. I can’t wait until Christmas to give Charlie Finding Your Hero.

Charlie can read the novel during Homeschool Reading Class or just for fun. The storyline is going to capture Charlie’s attention. I know he will want to read Finding Your Hero more than once.

In the meantime, I am excited to read both books as I hadn’t heard of     Jamie Schwandt, Ed.D. before I received the novels. I love discovering new Authors that publish children’s books but also publishes books for adults  because this allows me to share my love of reading with Charlie.

I would like to let you know I sat down to read Finding My Hero. I loved this storyline as well as the illustrations inside. One feature I enjoyed after reading Finding Your Hero to myself is knowing Charlie will be able to read this new novel to himself. As well as to my nieces and nephews if  Charlie chooses to.

Finding My Hero is a novel talking about Foster children and how they might feel. Finding My Hero shows us how they can see “Heroes” in the people around them.

I would like to share a tidbit about me. I’ve always wanted to become a Foster parent, and Finding Your Hero has given me the courage to try. I hope David and Charlie will want to as well.

I know David would be a fantastic Foster father and Charlie would be an excellent big brother. We have a lot of people in our family who would love having another little boy or girl to love including my Stepdaughter Leslie and my sister Debbie. As well as all the animals we have in our home.

If you know of a Foster child, Please purchase Finding My Hero for them and the families taking them in. Also if you haven’t thought about it please look into becoming a Foster parent as there are so many children that need a caring, loving home. If we can give them a home and love them I know this is what God would have us do.

Finding Your Hero: A Book About Succeeding as a Foster Child

You can say the system is ineffective and overwhelmed, but we can do better. Let us, instead, overwhelm it with energy, enthusiasm, and action. Foster care is about opportunity and improvement; which every child deserves.

Jamie Schwandt Ed.D.

Dr. Jamie Schwandt is a former foster child who understands how to succeed in life. He is currently a commissioned officer in the United States Army Reserve.

Dr. Schwandt serves as a public speaker and has presented his research and personal story of challenges and triumphs for many organizations and audiences.

He enjoys providing positive motivation for young individuals in foster care. Dr. Schwandt had a difficult childhood and overcome significant obstacles to get where he is today.

He was born in a small town in Kansas in a family where his parents abused drugs and alcohol. Both parents battled depression while suffering from other mental health issues.

His father committed suicide when he was eighteen years old. As a child, Dr. Schwandt witnessed many dangerous and poor decisions made by his parents.

From birth to eighteen years old, Dr. Schwandt moved more than twenty times with his parents, grandparents, and in the foster care system. He enlisted in the United States Army Reserve when he was just seventeen years old and continues to proudly serve his country, including deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Despite the challenges he faced during his upbringing, Dr. Schwandt obtained a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from Fort Hays State University.

In May 2013, he completed a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from Kansas State University. Dr. Schwandt is both determined and tenacious and is blessed to have experienced many successes in life.

Thank you,
