Rappy Goes to the Library

I would like to share a new book Charlie and I found at the library yesterday Rappy Goes to the Library. Before I begin the review, I would like to let you know Charlie was like a child in a candy store asking for certain books and movies he would like to check out. This totally blew me out of the water as this is the first time anything like this has ever happened.

In fact, this week Charlie brought home a book from the library to read each day for school as he is required to read for at least 20 minutes each day. As I thumbed through the book with Charlie and listened to him reading, Charlie blew me out of the water with how well he was doing reading the book. I was amazed at all the words he knew and didn’t have to ask for help with.  I had no, qualms over the books Charlie picked out.

Which included Rappy Goes to the Library written by Dan Gutman. Rappy Goes to the Library is a I Can Read Book Step 2. If you’re not familiar with I Can Read Books! Step 2 means it is reading with help.  I agree Charlie does need help at times. and last year Charlie wouldn’t have been able to read Rappy Goes to the Library at all. Or even try to read I Can Read!  Step 3 books although and after this week I think Charlie could read Step 3 Books without any help or at least minimal help from me.

Here is a Description:

Level 2: READING WITH HELP
Engaging stories, longer sentences, and language play for developing readers who still need some help.

Level 2 is for readers who are increasingly confident, but still need some help. Books at this level, like Frog and Toad Are Friends, and Amelia Bedelia titles include more complex story lines, longer sentences, and more challenging words. Mystery and adventure stories, like Plants vs. Zombies; Save Your Brains! and Justice League Classic: I Am the Flash, are included at this level, too.

I would like to introduce you to Rappy Goes to the Library which Charlie and I read last night. Charlie says before he shares his thoughts with you on Rappy Goes to the Library review that he would like to let you know he loved the cover of Rappy Goes to the Library as well as the title. As the title Rappy Goes to the Library catches your eye and makes you want to know what is going to happen.

I’m Rappy the Raptor

and I’d like to say,

I may not talk

in the usual way.

Charlie enjoyed Rappy Goes to the Library because this book talks about rapping and how it can get others excited.  Charlie loves to rep. Charlie also has trouble being quite in the library so Rappy Goes to the Library helped reminded Charlie to be quite as well as all of the different kinds of books you can check out in the library.

All in all, both Charlie and I enjoyed Rappy Goes to the Library a lot and both Charlie and I would like to know if there are other books about Rappy and if so, what are they and how do we find them?

When Rappy the Raptor’s class goes to the library, it’s all Rappy can do not to be noisy. Can he keep his rapping quiet, or will he start a book riot? When students are finding the library a bore, quick-thinking Rappy uses his rhyming skills to save the day!

Beginning readings will love to rap along as Rappy learns what a fun place the library can be. This rhyming Level Two I Can Read is perfect for beginning and developing readers.

Take a look at all these books!

Dan Gutman

This is hard. I’m a pretty regular Jersey guy who spent fifteen years trying to write newspaper articles, magazine articles, screenplays, books for adults, and just about everything else before I discovered the one thing, I’m good at–writing fiction for kids. I aim for kids who DON’T like to read, and hopefully the kids who DO like to read will enjoy my stuff too. For all the gory details about me, check out my web site.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
