RockALingua Music-Based Spanish Learning

Charlie has been asking to learn Spanish for one of his classes. I haven’t looked into it as I didn’t want to overwhelm either of us. Until I decide which classes we will keep and which ones we will remove from our schedule. This week as we work on things and regrouping I wanted to be able to share some websites with Charlie that allows us to explore Spanish.

As Charlie sleeps in this morning I am off on a search for Spanish classes for Charlie to take. If you know of a website that will allow Charlie to take this class Please leave me a comment and I will check it out this week. In the meantime, I found a website called Rockalingua which I plan on checking into this morning. If you have used  Rockalingua website what did you like or dislike about the website and classes and why?

Age Range: 7-18 (Grades 2-12, with parental supervision)
Kids can learn basic Spanish and vocabulary structure with the free samples at this commercial website.
While this is a subscription website, there is a load of free content for visitors to use. It appears that this site is geared towards elementary-aged students, but the content can most certainly benefit the older student. When arriving at the website scroll down a bit to review the icons for:
  • Videos
  • Games
  • Songs
  • Worksheets
  • Picture dictionaries
After your selection has been made browse through the page to locate available free content. For example, when we browsed the videos page we found free videos to learn:
  • Greetings/Daily Routines
  • Animals
  • Colors and Numbers
  • Parts of the Body
  • Family Members
  • Seasons
  • Rooms of the House
Games included learning colors, numbers, parts of the body, rooms of the house. There were loads of free songs with downloadable lyrics and images. Worksheet options included numbers and colors, animals, rooms of the house, transportation, parts of the body and more. And don’t leave this site without checking out their blog for loads of teaching ideas.
The colorful images, witty songs and music, and fun games will make this site a great supplement to any Spanish language program.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
