“When Did Technology Take the place of Customer Service?”

The other night Charlie, David and I went out to the Fort Worth Stock Show to walk around and let Charlie see all the animals and ride the rides in the Midway if he wanted to. Now, I have a question for you “When Did Technology Take the place of Customer Service?”

As we walked around, we ventured into the marketplace where vendors set up to sell items. Now, as a vendor with a small based business, I can tell you that taking a booth out at this event cost quite a bit of money. Much more than I am willing to spend in a stall because I am afraid I wouldn’t ever make money back.

So as we walked around, I found quite a few items I would have liked to purchase. But I refused because as I walked through the event and would walk up to a table and look around the people running the booths was either sitting in a chair and wouldn’t look up or speak to the customers. Or they were on there phones or tablets.

Now don’t get me wrong as I don’t want to be followed around by a salesperson. I would like to be acknowledged and asked if I had any questions. Because I did have a few a couple times. If you’re going to sit in your booth and not even look up, I am not going to purchase anything from you ever.

So let me tell you I walked out of the Stock Show only purchasing a wallet for David as the gentleman running this booth was so friendly and helpful. As well as a piece of candy for Charlie as those vendors helped Charlie out and took the time to ask him questions and to make him feel like he was important even though he was only spending a couple of dollars.

So, I have a question for you if you spend a small fortune to rent a booth to showcase your business and to get sales and people to want to shop with you why would you sit behind your booth on your phone or tablet? How many deals do you think you lost out on because of not speaking to the people walking?

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
