Did you know the “Cheese ball” is more than just an adjective describing the Santa sweater your family wears every Christmas without irony. Cheese Balls are actually in v style again. Especially during the holidays and, of course, National Cheese Ball Day on April 17.

Basic ingredients of a Cheese Ball often include cheddar cheese, cream cheese, green onion, and spices. Cheeseballs are sometimes coated with chopped pecans. Did you know when creating a Cheese Ball you can go vegetarian as well.

Think of Cheese Balls as a kind of freestanding dip, with all of your favorite party flavors rolled into one compact package. Still can’t visualize man’s greatest creation? Read on, and get ready to smile and say, “Why, I did,” when you overhear fellow revelers asking repeatedly, “Who brought this amazing cheese ball?”

National Cheese Ball Day Activities

  1. =Chances are you already have at least some ingredients for a Cheeseball on hand, and the rest aren’t hard to find. Or just throw Cheese Ball caution to the wind and improvise! That chunk of Pepper Jack that’s too small to cover your plate of Nachos can be used.
  2. If you have leftover Pepperoni from Pizza night. Wouldn’t that make a awesome Cheese Ball?
  3. Do you have a half a jar of rainbow sprinkles hiding behind the can goods? Why not use it in your Cheese ball
  4. Now that you’ve channeled culinary skills, why not share your newfound Cheeseball knowledge? After all, everyone loves Cheese. Don’t they? Take a moment and invite the squad and assign everyone an ingredient to contribute: Cream Cheese, Shredded Cheese, Crackers, or other dippers.
  5. Remember to provide Wine to get the party started.
  6. To make the celebration even more fun watch Cheese ball-inspired movies like “Spaceballs”. I’ve never seen have you? “Cannonball Run” which is one of David’s favorite movies. “Meatballs” another movie I haven’t see but Charlie want’s to watch. Would you like to join us for #movienight? Or just make it a night of Cheesy films. We’re pretty sure you can find one or two movies to watch while celebrating National Cheese Ball Day.

Why People Love National Cheese Ball Day

Did you know you can put pretty much any of your favorite Dip ingredients into creating a Cheese Ball, making the Cheese Ball infinitely customizable and a great “what-will-I-bring-to-this-potluck-let-me-clean-out-my-fridge” party offering.

If you wanna get frou-frou? You can make Cheese Balls into Pinecones. Or Pineapples. Or Snowmen. But really, any Cheese Ball is, by definition, fancy. I wonder if we could make a Cheese Ball in the shape of a Easter Bunny to celebratee Easter with? Largely because it’s not a plastic tray of bland, cubed Cheddar and sorry old Swiss.

Most Cheeseballs start with a base of softened Cream Cheese. Then you add whatever strikes your fancy; remember more Cheese is a surefire crowd-pleaser. Next, you form the ingredients into a ball. If you ever used Play-Doh as a child, you got this. Then roll that ball into another ingredient, like chopped Herbs or chopped Nuts. There are plenty of recipes if you’re still feeling jittery.

Cheese Balls are charmingly retro dishes and drinks which are in. Cheese Balls are a tasty throwback to a simpler time, before Meat and Cheese platters became “Charcuterie,” and before artisanal napkins and free-range forks graced the place settings of every locally-sourced restaurant around.

Use a rubber spatula to scrape the sides of the bowl and gather the mixture into one lump. Lightly grease your hands and form the mixture into a round ball.

Place the pecans on a plate. Hold the cheese ball in one hand and use the other hand to scoop the pecans onto the outside of the ball, pressing them in gently and turning the ball to coat all sides.
