April 3 National Burrito Day #NationalBurritoDay

The Mommies Reviews

April 3is National Burrito Day #NationalBurritoDay. I don’t know about you but National Burrito Day takes me back to my childhood in my Grandmother Dorie’s house when she would make Burrito’s for my siblings and I. She was my mom’s mom.

My Grandmother’s Burrito’s was nothing fancy Hamburger Meat and Refried Beans on Flour Tortilla’s. She would make extra Meat and keep it in the Ice Box for us to make Burrito’s anytime we wanted. They weren’t fancy they didn’t have Cheese, Queso or Chile but they were “slap o mamma” good. I wish I could make them for Charlie but no, matter what I do they never taste like my Grandmothers.

I have to go to Frijoles Cafe Cantina for there Super Burrito. I ask for Ground Beef and Refried Beans with Chili on top. Charlie and David like to get Fajita Chicken with Refried Beans and Queso on top of there Burrito’s.

Charlie and David also like Freebirds Burrito’s but there meat is to spicy for me. Or they will eat Chipotle while I prefer Mexican Inn. How about you. Where do you like to get your Burrito from and why? David said if your in Richland Hills/ North Richland Hills there is a “hole in the wall” restaurant on Grapevine Hwy you should check out.

My family would like to invite you to join us in a celebration of National Burrito Day which is celebrated on the first Thursday in April this year that is April 3rd. National Burrito Day celebrates everyone’s appreciation for Burritos.

The Mexican dish known as a Burrito is popular all over the world, but the Burrito has only been offered in American restaurants since the 1930s. Can you imagine a time where Burritos didn’t exist? I can’t., Celebrate today’s holiday with us by eating as many Burritos as you want. Calories don’t count do they?

The question today is who doesn’t love Burritos? The Mexican dish is a national favorite, and everyone likes their Burrito a certain way – with Beans, or Meat, Salsa, Cheese, Lettuce, Sour Cream, and Vegetables. There’s the debate on whether Rice belongs in a Burrito or not which we’ll let you pick your own side of the argument. David and Charlie say Rice is fine in a Burrito I say no, way no, how.

Did you know the oldest historical mention of a Burrito appears in the “Dictionary of Mexicanisms” in 1895. Meaning “little Donkey” in Spanish, it’s possible the term refers to the packs and bedrolls Donkeys once carried.

The definition explained that a Burrito was a “rolled Tortilla, with Meat or other food within.” The dish first became popular in Guanajuato and Guerrero before its popularity moved Northward to the United States. Thank the LORD it did.

Modern Burritos are Tortillas stuffed with Beans and Hot Sauce originated near Fresno and Stockton, California before appearing on restaurant menus in the 1930s, starting at the El Cholo Spanish Café in Los Angeles. Recipes for the popular dish first appeared in 1934 in Erna Fergusson’s “Mexican Cookbook.

Burritos have changed over time. American Burritos have many ingredients, while Mexican Burritos are only filled with Meat and Beans. The first frozen Burrito was sold in 1964. Fried Burritos are now affectionately known as Chimichangas.

Breakfast Burritos were introduced in 1975 by Tia Sophia’s in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The breakfast meal consists of a Tortilla stuffed with Bacon, Potatoes, Chili, and Cheese. Taco Bell launched its own popular version of a breakfast Burrito in 2014.

Burritos can be enjoyed by nearly everyone, making the Burrito one of the most widely eaten Mexican dishes across the globe. National Burrito Day gives you the perfect opportunity to fill your hungry belly with your favorite Mexican flavors.

With savory fillings including Chicken and Beef, and a medley of other ingredients including Vegetables, Rice, and Cheese, Burritos are flavor-packed and loved by many. Not only this, the condiments including Guacamole, Salsa, and Pico de Gallo — have a separate fanbase.

Traditions for the day are to enjoy as many variations of the Burrito as possible. Get-togethers are hosted with Burritos on the menu, and different Meat, Vegetable, and Cheese options are available. Authentic Mexican Burritos have thin and small Tortillas, whereas Deshebrada Burritos are on the spicier side.

People try different types of Burritos and even go out of their comfort zone by trying Burritos containing obscure ingredients including French Fries and Sushi.

Burritos also have variations including the Burrito Bowl and Chimichanga which equally get attention on National Burrito Day. Many Mexican restaurants and eateries have special offers on Burritos, or limited-edition flavors to celebrate the day.

National Burrito Day Activities

  1. MWe all know there’s only one surefire way to celebrate National Burrito Day which is eating Burritos. All you need is Hamburger Meat ie Ground Beef, Steak or Cheese and Taco Seasoning, Refried Beans for me but a lot of people use Black Beans, Rice if you want it which I will skip, Flour Tortillas pr Corn, and a Cheese of your choice. Cook the Meat with the Taco Seasoning you can make but I get Mc Cormick’s Taco Seasoning. You can use any brand Taco Seasoning you like. Spread the Beans on the Tortillas, and top with Rice, Cheese, and the cooked Meat. Roll up the Tortilla, Burrito style, and you’re good to go!
  2. If you have the means and the opportunity today host a Burrito party so you can rejoice in everyone’s favorite Mexican dish with your closest family and friends. For the most convenient way to fashion all of those Burritos to everyone’s specifications, set up your party in the form of a Burrito bar. Provide Tortillas and a range of different fillings, so everyone can prepare their Burrito just the way they like it.
  3. Most people have a favorite
  4. Mexican Restaurant that they’re intensely loyal to for me I have several sit down Mexican Resturans I like and no, they are no Chipotle or Taco Bell if they do count for people who want Fast Food or might be on a budget.
  5. If you have the means and the opportunity pay a visit to your preferred restaurant if possible choose a Mom and Pop restaurant and order your favorite Burrito. Then you will be doing something kind for local business and also for your stomach.

Why People Love National Burrito Day

I don’t know about you but I love any food where we can ditch the silverware and stuff our faces and remember no, one needs to look dignified when there’s a Cheesy, Meaty, Guacamole-y if you like it Burrito waiting for you? Remember silverware just slows down the eating process, so we’re all for any Socially acceptable occasion to throw the silverware away aren’t we?

Ask around your office, or your friends and family and I guarantee you everyone has a strong opinion on the perfect Burrito. Are Californian Burritos which are Burritos with French Fries in them – gross, or are they delicious? If you ask me gross but I’m sure David would say good and with Charlie who knows.

Now the next question is should Burritos have Rice, or is Rice a bland addition that takes away all the Burrito’s flavor? Ask these questions and let the opinions flow! Before you ask me no, Rice for me but Charlie and David said Rice is fine in a Burrito and I don’t think so do you?

Everyone has different favorite foods, but Burritos are basically many of those foods wrapped all together in a warm Tortilla. You might not agree with me but a lot of people will agree they’re delicious. Aren’t they?
