Man, on man I missed out sharing a fun #Holiday that happens on August 19 National Soft Ice Cream Day #NationalSoftIceCreamDay. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t mind having a Soft Ice Cream Cone today. How about you?
I think I would like to go to Dairy Queen with David for a Soft ice Cream Cone. Charlie said he would like to go to Braum’s. If I can’t make it to Dairy Queen I wonder if the Ice Cream machines at McDonald’s are working? Most of the time there broke in our area. How about your area?
If its raining where you are like it is here I thought I would share a recipe with you. Then we can make our own Soft Ice Cream and add what ever topping you like. I will either have a plain Soft Serve Vanilla Cone or add my Soft Serve Ice Cream to a bowl with Hot Fudge Sauce. Would you like to join me?
Soft Ice Cream Recipe- no machine required!
Ingredients
- 4 cups milk
- 1 cup sugar
- ⅔ cup cream
- ¾ cup dry milk powder
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp salt
- 900g dry ice (for instant freezing magic!)
Instructions
- Mix the base: In a large bowl, blend all ingredients using a hand blender or regular blender until smooth. Make sure there are no clumps of milk powder.
- Chill it: Cover and refrigerate the mixture until it’s very cold.
- Prep the dry ice: Wearing gloves, crush dry ice into a fine powder using a heavy pan or hammer. Keep it in the freezer until ready.
- Churn with dry ice: Pour the cold ice cream base into a stand mixer with a paddle attachment. Mix on medium speed, adding dry ice one spoonful at a time. Let the foam settle before adding more.
- Watch it thicken: Continue adding dry ice slowly until the mixture becomes thick and creamy like soft serve.
- Serve it up: Scoop into a piping bag with a round nozzle and swirl into cones. Best enjoyed fresh!
This recipe gives you that classic soft-serve texture and flavor—just like the ice cream shop without the hassle of leaving home and spending money which if your like me you might not have.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
