August 4 Assistance Dog Day #AssistanceDogDay

The Mommies Reviews

August 4th which was yesterday was Assistance Dog Day #AssistanceDogDay. Charlie and I both have Dogs and they should have been certified Assistance Dogs when we got them because Bear has kept Charlie from hurting himself more times than I can count.

Neither Bear nor Pheobie may have papers but they both know when we need them and take care of us in more ways than one. I don’t think either Charlie or I would have survived Covid-19 without our Dogs. Bear needs a little more training to lean not to run away but if you call her she comes right back.

I’ve never taken them into stores or tried to get them to stay beside me in a store but I know Pheobie would and I’m sure Bear would to if Charlie would work with her. As Bear is getting older I’m not sure how much longer she will be with us I need to find Charlie a new Puppy and get him certified as a @AssitanceDog so if something does happen to Bear Charlie will not be as upset.

I can’t say getting Charlie a second Dog is the best thing for our family but when my Dog Sandy passed away and Lucy it helped me a lot when David got Pheobie for me to work with and train. I can never ever thank David enough for that.

I just hate Charlie had to give his other Dog Annie to David’s Uncle Don and Aunt Barbara because Appian Way Townhomes wouldn’t let us have 3 Dogs even though other residents have more Dogs and Cats.

Annie was like David’s emotional support Dog and I know both David and Charlie miss Annie a lot. Just as I do. I also would have liked to have gotten Annie certified but I wouldn’t want to take her away from Uncle Don. Instead I want to get David his own Dog and have it certified.

Do you have a service assistance animal? If so how were you able to get the Dog certified? Was it hard to do and was it expensive? Is there certain training they have to have and if so what kind of training? Can you share a photo of your Service Assistance Dog?

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
