I wanted to share a self-help book with you this morning Breathe Through It: An Interactive Guide to Ease Your Anxiety Through Meditation, Visualization, and Breathwork by Carissa Potter (Author), Vera Kachouh (Author). The last couple days when I’ve tried to fall asleep I find myself jerking awake because I feel like I’m going to have a PANIC ATTACK. Or sitting on the couch at night when everyone is sleeping I begin to get antsy and have to find something to keep my mind busy.
Then it began to creep in during the day while riding in the car and I knew I needed to nip it in the bud. I picked up Breathe Through It: An Interactive Guide to Ease Your Anxiety Through Meditation, Visualization, and Breathwork and flipped through the book and I’ve been doing the exercises in the book and its helped me stay focused.
The panic attacks have stopped and I find myself being calmer and not getting mad at the drop of a hat. There has been less yelling in our home from me and that is a Godsend. Charlie and David saw me reading Breathe Through It and have been reading it as well.
Were going to be doing the exercises in the book together as a family without electronics which will bring us closer together. I like how the exercises can take from one minute to a hour so we can fit them in no matter how much time we have.
I liked having the quotes in the front of the book to keep us grounded. The ”well-being check” is something I do daily. There is clocks in the book that tells us how long each exercise will take. As well as prompts telling us what we will be doing.
I will be purchasing copies of the book for my best friend and my sister. Then we can do the exercises together and help each other when were feeling overwhelmed. The book is created for adults but the exercises can even help children out.
About:
A collection of meditations, somatic therapy exercises, and more to help you customize your own practice and reduce anxiety
When you’re in the midst of an overwhelming feeling, it can be hard to find a way out of it. Even if the feeling isn’t particularly overwhelming—such as minor anxiety, unwelcome rumination, or an inability to slow your thoughts or get to sleep—sometimes you need a tool kit to help you get out of your head and back into your body.
Breathe Through It is a collection of meditation and somatic therapy exercises with room to make notes on how each exercise worked (or didn’t work) for you. Organized in sections based on the amount of time each exercise will take, from one minute to one hour, this book is the calm-down hack everyone needs to sort out their own customized meditation practice. No matter how big your feelings are in the moment, this clever little book will help you Breathe Through It.
Meet the Author: Carissa Potter

Originally from Minneapolis, Carissa Potter lives and works in Oakland, California. Her prints and small-scale objects reflect her hopeless romanticism through their investigations into public and private intimacy.
Speaking both humorously and poignantly to the human condition, Carissa’s work touches chords we all can relate to – exploring situations we’ve all experienced at some point in our lives and conveying messages we simply long to hear.
Carissa Potter is a founding member of Colpa Press and founder of People I’ve Loved. Since 2010, she has been an artist in residence at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, where she teaches letterpress. She also serves as a mentor in Southern Exposure’s One-on-One Mentorship Program. Carissa received her MFA in Printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2010.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
