All my live I’ve heard sleep when the baby sleeps being told to new parents but never Cry When The Baby Cries but this quote makes more sense than you would even know if your a new parent. I couldn’t wait to share this advice with my friends daughter who is having her first baby soon.

I sat down to read the book and found myself nodding more and more as the Author brought us back to the sleepless, anxiety-filled nights with a newborn who is cranky or colicky. The the Author brings us through the winding road of making new mom friends, which was the hardest part for me. How about you?

Into the depths of emotionally-obliterating toddlerhood, down deep into the mire of caring for more than one child at the same time. Which thank the LORD I never had to deal with because I only had one child at a time. What about you?

Through the story I could feel the new moms exhaustion, loneliness, elation, has well as her fear, and her guilt, along with her pride. If you know a new parent or want to relive what you went through as a parent I hope you pick up a copy of Cry When The Baby Cries to share with your friends and family.

My favorite part of the book was all the illustrations that had me laughing so loud more than one time I almost p…ed my pants. I bet you will as well when you dive into the story and that you will find its a book you don’t want to put down.

About the book:

Born out of a viral “Shouts & Murmurs” piece in The New Yorker, this darkly humorous, charming, and brilliant graphic memoir, in the tradition of Allie Brosh and Roz Chast, brings the first few years of parenthood to life.

With the wit of a comedian and the observational skills of a sociologist surveying a new subculture, Becky Barnicoat writes about her first few years of parenthood with warmth, sharp insight, and uproarious humor in her debut graphic memoir Cry When the Baby Cries.

Barnicoat’s prose is always relatable, smart, and so funny while discussing everything from how ignoring women’s pain is baked into the practice of obstetrics to the impossibility of putting a child down drowsy but awake while you are permanently drowsy but awake, to the tyranny of gentle parenting, and more.

Barnicoat gives us permission to cry when the baby cries, and also laugh, snort, lie on the floor naked, drool, and revel in a deeply strange new world ruled by a tyrannical tiny leader, growing bigger and more cherished by the day.
