December 17 is National Maple Syrup Day — the perfect excuse to drizzle Maple Syrup over pancakes, Waffles, or even Roasted Veggies. I wanted to remind you Maple Syrup isn’t just a breakfast topping; it’s a natural sweetener with a rich history in North America, especially tied to Indigenous traditions and Canadian culture.
Here are a few fun ways people celebrate #MapleSyrupDay:
- Breakfast feast: Invite your friends and family over and make Pancakes, Waffles, French toast, or Oatmeal topped served with Maple Syrup.
- Savory twist: Glaze Salmon, Chicken, or Roasted Carrots with Maple Syrup.
- Sweet treats: Maple Fudge, Maple Cookies, or Maple-flavored Ice Cream.
- DIY fun: Try making Maple Candy by pouring Hot Syrup onto fresh Snow (a classic Canadian tradition).
Here is a fun fact you can share with your friends and family. It takes about 40 gallons of Sap to make just 1 gallon of Maple Syrup.
I have a question for you. Would you like me to share some creative social media post ideas or recipes you could use to celebrate #MapleSyrupDay? If so leave me a comment and I will get to work on what you need.
Recipe for Buttermilk Pancakes
Here’s a classic recipe for fluffy, golden Buttermilk Pancakes you can whip up in about 30 minutes.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
- Extra butter for cooking
- Maple syrup for serving
Instructions
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Prepare wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, eggs, and melted butter until smooth.
- Combine: Gently fold the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Don’t overmix—some lumps are fine.
- Cook pancakes: Heat a skillet over medium-low and add a little butter. Pour about ⅓ cup of batter per pancake.
- Flip: Cook until bubbles form on top and the bottom is golden brown. Flip and cook until the other side is golden.
- Serve: Stack them up and drizzle with maple syrup.
Tips & Variations
- Add blueberries, chocolate chips, or banana slices to the batter for extra flavor.
- Make a double batch and freeze leftovers—just reheat in the oven for a quick breakfast.
- For extra fluffiness, let the batter rest for 5–10 minutes before cooking.
If you would you like me to also share a quick Buttermilk substitute (in case you don’t have any on hand)? Leave me a comment and I will get to work on it.
