Homeschool Resources: September 27 Museum Day #MuseumDay

Holidays Homeschool Resources Museums

September 27 isn’t universally recognized as Museum Day, it does coincide with Rocket Day at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, held annually on that date. This free, family-friendly event features:

  • Hands-on STEM activities
  • Rocket building and launching
  • Interactive demonstrations and trivia
  • LEGO Saturn V builds
  • Robotics showcases

It’s a celebration of science, engineering, and aerospace history at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

Meanwhile, Austin Museum Day—a major cultural event in Texas—is typically held on the second-to-last Sunday of September, not fixed to the 27th. In 2025, it falls on September 21, offering free admission to over 30 Museums across Austin with special programming for all ages..

While September 27 isn’t a global Museum Day, it’s a great day to celebrate museums and science in the U.S. If you’re near Dayton, Ohio, Rocket Day is a blast. If you’re in Austin, mark your calendar for the 21st!
