January 31 National Hot Chocolate Day #NationalHotChocolateDay

Beverages Holidays Kid-Friendly Recipes Recipes

Here it is the first of February and I’m still playing catch-up and sharing post for January is okay because that shows I’m human. Like others I fall behind and even fail at things sometimes but I’m not going to let that stop me.

Join me today and let’s celebrate a #Holiday that felll on January 31st National Hot Chocolate Day #NationalHotChocolateDay and since its cold outside it is the perfect day to celebrate Hot Chocolate. Would you like to join me for a cup? Do you want your Hot Chocolate made with Milk or Water? Why?

Charlie and I prefer Milk, but we do drink Hot Chocolate made with Water sometimes. As for David he will drink Hot Chocolate either way, but he prefers Hot Cider. If you don’t want a cup of Hot Chocolate with me, I can make you a cup of Apple Cider.

If your #Homeschooling your children you can have them study Chocolate and how Hot Chocolate came to be. Then take them to the grocery store to purchase ingredients to make this Kid-Friendly Hot Chocolate recipe.

For a fun Field Trip visit a Resale Store, Thrift Store or Dollar Tree and let everyone pick out a Coffee Mug of their choice it serves the Hot Chocolate in. Or visit a Pottery Class and let everyone make their own Hot Chocolate Mug.

Kid-Friendly Hot Chocolate recipe

A cozy cup of hot chocolate that kids can help make always feels like a little celebration. This version keeps everything simple, safe, and delicious—perfect for chilly mornings, movie nights, or a fun blog feature on The Mommies Reviews or Mikayla Lifestyle.

Kid‑Friendly Hot Chocolate Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk (whole or 2% works best)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: mini marshmallows, whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles, crushed peppermint, or a drizzle of chocolate syrup

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk: Pour the milk into a small saucepan. Heat over medium‑low until warm but not boiling. Kids can help pour the milk in, but an adult should handle the stove.
  2. Mix the cocoa + sugar: In a small bowl, stir together the cocoa powder, sugar, and pinch of salt. This helps prevent lumps. Kids love this step.
  3. Whisk it in: Add the cocoa mixture to the warm milk. Whisk until smooth and fully combined.
  4. Add vanilla: Stir in the vanilla extract for that cozy, bakery‑style flavor.
  5. Serve + decorate; Pour into mugs and let kids add their favorite toppings. Mini marshmallows are always a hit.

Tips for Extra Fun

  • Add a candy cane as a stir stick for a peppermint twist.
  • Use heart‑shaped marshmallows for Valentine’s content.
  • Let kids sprinkle cinnamon or chocolate shavings on top for a “chef moment.”
