Food Holidays Recipes

Life is funny I’ve been wanting to go to Walmart to pick up Pepperidge Farmers Apple Turnovers for David and I to share. Last week was the first time I ever had a Apple Turnover thanks to a coupon we had for Arby’s but it was so good I’ve been craving one.

Then I find out May 13th is Apple Pie Day which is a day I missed celebrating because I was sick. So I will celebrate National Apple Pie Day today. Would you want to join me? I can ask David to pick up a Applie Pie and Cool Whip or Whipped Cream on his way home.

If your #Homeschooling your children and have a Apple Orchard near you take them on a #FieldTrip to pick up Apples. Then have them research a recipe online for Apple Pie or use the one I’ve included below and hold a #cooking class and let them make a Pie for dessert this evening. Don’t forget Apple Pie makes a wonderful breakfast as well.

Did you know Apple Pie’s journey began long before it became an American staple? The earliest known recipe dates back to 1381 in England, featuring Apples, Spices, Raisins, Figs, Pears, and Saffron, all encased in a Pastry Crust.

Dutch recipes from the 15th Century also contributed to the evolution of the dish, introducing variations that included Spices like Cardamom and Nutmeg. These European settlers brought their Pie-making traditions to the American Colonies, where the desert adapted to local ingredients and tastes.

In the United States, Apple Pie gained prominence in the 18th and 19th Centuries, becoming a symbol of prosperity and national identity. Here is a fact you can share with your family. The phrase “as American as Apple Pie” emerged in the early 20th Century, reflecting the dessert’s deep-rooted association with American values and home life. During World War II, Soldiers often cited “Mom and Apple Pie” as reasons for fighting, further cementing its place in American culture.

National Apple Pie Day falls on May 13th this year and it’s a day dedicated to celebrating the iconic dessert that has been a staple in American culture for generations. Whether you’re a fan of the classic Apple Pie or enjoy experimenting with different variations, this is the perfect time to indulge in this sweet treat.

On National Apple Pie Day, you can honor this delicious dessert by baking your own Apple Pie at home, visiting a local bakery to pick up a fresh slice, or sharing a Pie with friends and family. National Apple Pie Day is a great opportunity to bond over a slice of Pie and create lasting memories.

National Apple Pie Day, is celebrated annually on May 13th, and the #Holiday pays homage to one of America’s most beloved desserts and cultural icons. Apple Pies origins intertwine with the rich tapestry of American history and culinary heritage.

The roots of Apple Pie in American culture can be traced back to early European settlers who brought with them recipes for Fruit-filled Pastries. However, it was not until the 18th and 19th centuries that Apple Pie became firmly entrenched in American cuisine. Apples were abundant and versatile, making them a staple ingredient in many households across the Nation.

The association between Apple Pie and American identity gained momentum during the 19th Century, fueled in part by the writings of Authors like Mark Twain and the popularity of folk songs like “Yankee Doodle Dandy.” The phrase “as American as Apple Pie” encapsulated the sentiment of patriotism and nostalgia for simpler times.
