May 30th National Mint Julep Day #MintJulepDay

Alcohol/ Alcoholic Beverages Beverages Holidays Recipes

David has been working so hard the past couple weeks to help us catch up on bills and his job may even get busier next week. I wanted to share a #Holiday I missed sharing with David that happened on May 30th National Mint Julep Day #MintJulepDay.

I have a question for you. What do you think of when you hear the words “Mint Julep”? I think of the #KentuckyDerby. Come and share a Mint Julep with David this evening which I’m going to pass on. But I’ve included a recipe for you.

Recipe for Mint Julep’s

Mint Simple Syrup:

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • ½ cup roughly chopped fresh mint leaves

Cocktails:

  • 8 cups crushed ice, or as needed
  • 32 fluid ounces Kentucky bourbon
  • 8 sprigs fresh mint for garnish

Directions

  1. Gather the ingredients.
  2. Make the simple syrup ahead of when you plan to serve: Bring water, sugar, and chopped mint to a boil over high heat in a small saucepan.
  3. Cook, stirring occasionally, until sugar is completely dissolved, 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool.
  4. Pour syrup through a strainer to remove mint leaves.
  5. To make the mint juleps: Fill eight glasses with crushed ice; pour 4 ounces bourbon and 1/4 cup mint syrup into each cup.
  6. Top each drink with a mint sprig

Thank you,
