September 7 Pet Rock Day #PetRockDay

Holidays Homeschool Resources

Welcome to a new #Holiday which is known as Happy Pet Rock Day which falls on September 7th and Pet Rock Day is the perfect excuse to turn a simple stone into a star of your homeschool day. I’ve created a educational, fun Homeschool Lesson Plan to celebrate #PetRockDay on.

Art & Creativity

  • Rock Painting Party: Grab some acrylic paints and let kids decorate their pet rocks as animals, emojis, or even superheroes remember the Sky’s the limit when painting your pet rock.
  • Design a Pet Rock Home: Use recycled materials to build a cozy habitat for your pet rock—great for spatial reasoning and design thinking.

Writing & Language Arts

  • “Ode to My Pet Rock”: Try a beginner songwriting activity where students write lyrics and sing about their pet rock.
  • Creative Writing Prompt: “If your pet rock came to life, what adventures would you go on together?” Let your imaginations run wild.

Science & Nature

  • Rock Hunt & Classification: Invite your friends and family to go on a nature walk to find rocks. Teach your friends, family and students how to identify igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic type rocks and what the differences are in the rocks.
  • Soil & Rock Study: Use free resources to explore how rocks form and their role in Earth’s layers.

Bible & Character Building (Faith-Based Option)

  • Memorize verses like “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer” – Psalm 18:2.
  • Discuss how rocks symbolize strength and stability in scripture.

Bonus Activity:

  • Pet Rock Portraits: Take photos of your friends, family and students with their pet rocks and create a bulletin board or digital collage to hang up in your classroom.
