February is Mental health month reminding us mental and emotional health can begin at an early age, and children’s book author Debbie Wolski brings us enchanting tales that nurture emotional growth, self-esteem and resilience in her new book Slow Down My Friend.
Slow Down, My Friend encourages the simple concept of balance between “doing and not doing” through a charming story about a Turtle and a Pony. Who would have thought a Pony and a Turtle could be friends? Not me.
I sat down this afternoon and read Slow Down Friend and learned about Tyler the Turtle who reminds us that we need to slow down at times which Twilly never thought about but once she did she noticed the Birds around her.
Tyler and Twilly decide to go tell Grandma Majic what they learned. In the story were introduced to “Pancake School’. To make learning last longer in our home when Charlie sits down to read Slow Down My Friend I plan on having Charlie make Pancakes for us to share.
If we had been #Homeschooling full time I would have gotten out set of Dominoes out to practice what happens when you go fast and also what happens when you go slow. I liked the poster they made to track the things they do which allowed us to meet more of there friends.
Slow Down My Friend is not only a adventure book but a message we all need to here. I believe this book should be in all school libraries and counselors offices. I hope you take the time to share this amazing book with everyone you know.
The illustrations in the book are so fun to look at and colorful they will keep little ones entertained for hours on end. I enjoyed the note in the back of the book from Grandma Magic and checking out all the QR Codes. I wanted to ask you to take a moment and watch a recent interview with Debbie
About:
Heartwarming Children’s Tale of Turtle and Pony a Gentle Reminder to Slow Down and Get the Most Out of Life
MODESTO, Calif., Feb. 19, 2025 — A little adventure book with a message, Slow Down, My Friend from prolific children’s book author Debbie Wolski shares the delightful tale of Tyler T. Turtle as he mentors an energetic pony, Twilly the Filly.
Tyler likes to take things slowly, and Twilly likes to gallop her way through life. Together, they learn to balance the two extremes. Twilly discovers that if she slows her pace, she’ll get more out of life, while Tyler learns there are indeed times when a faster pace is needed.
“People tend to overload their schedules and sometimes do the same for their children. I thought it would be nice to encourage balance between ‘doing and not doing,’” Wolski said. “We don’t always have to speed through life. There are times we should slow down and smell the roses.”
Recommended for children ages 3-12, Slow Down, My Friend is the second in Wolski’s nine-book Grandma Magic series. Each book is a delightful blend of whimsy and wisdom, sprinkling a touch of magic into every story to inspire young hearts and minds with lessons about kindness, self-control and balancing life’s opposites.
“Our characters learn from each other, and a happy ending ensues,” Wolski added. Slow Down, My Friend is a charming, funny, educational read, with delightful artwork, to be enjoyed by all age groups.”

About the Author: Debbie Wolski
At 71, Debbie Wolski is healthier, happier and stronger than ever. In 1973, a diagnosis of severe Scoliosis, with a 35-degree rotation, prompted her to dive into a personal yoga practice instead of having a risky surgery that came with warnings instead of guarantees.
She is an artist working mostly with acrylics for murals and watercolors. A Central Valley California native, she opened Modesto’s first yoga studio in 2000. She taught yoga and Pilates at Modesto Junior College for 12 years, and at Modesto Community College for 24 years. Wolski loves helping people and eliminating pain from their lives — whether it’s physical, mental or emotional pain — she will do her best to find the root cause and address it.
