Charlie and I sat down to read The Mystery of Mushroom Valley this morning with the black Crow and the man hiding in the Trees this morning. Before opening the book I showed Charlie what the Author said about the book “A Tale about the Magic of Nature and the Power of Kindness.

Charlie and I discussed what “The Power of Kindness” means to us before we began to read the chapter book which is for children in upper elementary grades. Although, children and adults of all ages will enjoy The Mystery of Mushroom Valley.

The Mystery of Mushroom Valley: A Tale about the Magic of Nature and the Power of Kindness with meet Aunt Nell and Uncle Hat and no, I don’t know why he is called Uncle Hat but we learned they weren’t her biological family but friends that became family. Which I have as well. How about you?

There working in the Garden. We learn the child had moved from the City to the Country and she was a only child. In the book we hear about Covid again and how it affected her family. We go inside Aunt Nell’s barn which is where her Garden was.

She shows the child a empty space and lets her know its her spot for a Garden. Her mom takes her to the store for Seeds. Aunt Nell and the child plant the Seeds and Aunt Nell reminds her to encourage the Plant. I do to mine as well. Do you speak to your Plants.

The Plants grow but her Watermelon died. The child realizes years later how Aunt Nell was tending to the child’s feelings. The next year the child’s garden grew and through the years her Garden got bigger and she was able to grow more Vegetables.

Uncle Hat tells the child he doesn’t have to plant plants to get Vegetables and takes her into the Woods to find Mushrooms. We learn about the Morel Mushroom. Once the find the Mushrooms Uncle Hat would show her mom how to cook them.

First they had to make sure they didn’t pick poisonous Mushrooms. Uncle Hat finds a Morel Mushroom and he has the child looking but telling her if she was hot or cold. Uncle hat gives the child his cane so she can keep looking for Mushrooms.

The child learns Uncle Hat likes the Spider-Man movie just like she does. I do to. How about you? Mom makes dinner and cooks the Morel Mushrooms which was so good. I will pass on Mushrooms but David said he would like to have some. How about you?

The following Spring the child takes her parents to hunt Mushrooms. They go to get Uncle hat but he is sick and can’t go. The child doesn’t want people to find her Mushrooms so her and her dad hang a sign directing people to Mushroom Valley but it was in the wrong direction.

Now Uncle Hat is in a wheelchair as the child goes Mushroom hunting by herself. The child sits down and a small man pops out from behind the Tree. Then the little man disappears. As time goes on Aunt Nell and Uncle Hat move to there sons for him to take care of them

The child goes to College and makes friends. One comes home with her and they go Mushroom hunting. My friend finds a Mushroom then we come to the sign my dad and made its laying on the groun forgotten.

They walk further over the Hill and find Mushrooms but leave a lot because the child had learned not to pick them all because the would upset the balance of Nature. That night Aunt Nell called and Uncle Hat had passed away.

Don’t let that stop you from reading The Mystery of Mushroom Valley: A Tale about the Magic of Nature and the Power of Kindness with your children because the Author has so much to teach us in the Story of friendship and family.
