Charlie and I’ve always been intrigued with Origami and wanted to learn to make some of the Animals but haven’t dove in until today. I handed Charlie a copy of The Origami Kid: A Paperfolding Adventure by by Robert McGuire (Author). Charlie has been upstairs online with Mikalya and together there reading and making the things in the book.
With Summer here and schools getting out this week The Origami Kid is the perfect book to keep children off electronics and from saying I’m bored or there is nothing to do. If we had still been #Homeschooling Charlie and I would have used the book in our Art Class.
I love how the Author has taken the time to share common folds and symbols with us which has led to many teaching moments in our home. In The Origami Kid: A Paperfolding Adventure we meet Mike who is bored because its raining and no, one wants to play. Charlie and I’ve been there. Have you?
Mike remembered adventures are more fun with a friend so he decides to make himself a friend. Mike makes Zoe a Dog who follows him everywhere. Charlie and Mikalya couldn’t wait to make there own Dogs.
They end up in the Jungle but it gets dark and Mike and Zoe don’t know how to get out. Mike makes a #Monkey which I wish Suzzie was here to make because she loved Monkeys and her nick-name is Monley Sue.
They come to the Water and see a Island. How can they get there? They make a Boat. David said he would like to ride with them in the boat. Would you want to come with them? Then they make a #Bird my favorite out of everything they made.
Charlie and I are making Birds this evening he is making a Humming Bird and I’m making a Blue Bird. David said he is going to make a Red Bird. Would you want to make a Bird or two with us? next we learn how to make a Airplane and its much better than the paper airplanes we made as a child.
They meet someone new on there adventure but I’m not going to tell you who because you need to read The Origami Kid to find out. Now you might think this is the end of there adventure but it isn’t. Pick up a copy of the book to find out what happens next.
I love how the Author includes step-by-step instructions which makes the items in the book easy enough for small children to make but challenging enough to keep adults entertained as well. Boys and girls will enjoy the Story.
In the back of The Origami Kid: A Paperfolding Adventure is the paper you need to create the projects in the book in a yellow envelope. As well as a recipe so you can make a snake to have when your creating your Origami Art work. These projects can be turned into a business or even used to decorate your home with and they make great Gifts.
About the book:
For origami lovers, adventurers, and storytellers, fold origami right alongside Mike in this modern retelling of the popular Japanese fable, Momotaro (“The Peach Boy”). Includes 28 sheets of origami paper, 7 different origami models, and a bonus recipe for “folded” dumplings.
Mike is bored at home on a rainy day. Luckily, he can make his own fun! With nothing but his imagination (and some origami paper), Mike sets out on an epic journey through a jungle, across an ocean, and up the tallest mountain. Along the way, he encounters some new paper friends—Zoe the dog, Monkey, and Bird. Fold origami with Mike on his journey to save his newly folded friends from the monster…and maybe save the monster, too!
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
