I wanted to share a new children’s book with you will find inside our Christmas Gift Guide 24: There’s a Robot in my Sock by Meredith Rusu (Author), Martín Morón (Illustrator) I received a copy of in exchange for this review. Charlie has been obsessed with Robots for ever it seems. We used to watch any movies we could that had Robots in them. Charlie still has Robots from when he was little he is keeping to give to any children he might have.

Charlie asked if his friend Bradly would be able to spend the night last night and I said yes. Once the boys got up this morning I made them Cinnamin Rolls. Then I handed Charlie the book and both boys went and climbed on the couch and they begin to look through the pages.

Before I knew what was happening Charlie began to read the story to use. Before Charlie read the first page Bradley reminded me this book is part of The Mighty Moods Series and he wanted to purchase some of the books for his brothers.

Charlie begin to read the story and the boys didn’t move until Charlie finished the last page and they both loved the story a lot. Charlie let me know he was going to add it to the books he is keeping to give to his own children.

All three of us liked fining out the little girl had a secret buddy who will fritz when things don’t go here way. Fritz was a learning tool because the boys hadn’t heard of it before. Have you? We find out her friend is a Robot in her socks.

Charlie, Bradley and I would like to have a Robot in our socks. What about you? her mom knows about the robot and how she wants things to go perfectly. She has to have everything always done the same way it seems.

Then her grandmother wants to take her and she doesn’t know about her Robot. Everything here is different and the Robot doesn’t like it. She tells her Grandma her Robot doesn’t like thins. Grandma looks surprised to find out there is a Robot in her socks.

Grandma ask her what the Robot says to Cookies and I’m not going to tell you because you need to pick up a copy of There’s a Robot in my Socks and make sure you invite all your friends and family over to hear the story.

Grandma say’s lets read a book but can you guess what the Robot says? Then Grandma tries to get her into bed. Does it work I’m not telling because again you need to pick up a copy of the book to find out what happens.

The day goes on and on for hours. Where is mommy? Why is mommy gone so long? Grandma tells Jamie she knows it must feel strange not being at home. Then they take a walk down to the beach and they bring the Robot with them. I wish I could walk down to the beach. How about you?

Grandma ask Jamie to take her socks off but she says no. What do you think happens and why? Then it begins to rain. Robot’s cant get wet so they go into a shop. Grandma ask Jamie if she would like a Ice Cream. What do you think she says?

Grandma tells Jame she is a lot like her and tells her she can’t stand it when her house isn’t perfect inside. She has a Robot to that comes out when she is stressed. Then my mom brought me here and something happened. Again I’m not going to tell you what because you need to pick up a copy of the book to find out what.

Let’s go home and I will dry your socks for you and the socks won’t have to leave your feet. Can you guess how her Grandma warms the socks? To find out you will need to check out the book. Mommy comes and she finds out everything was fine.

See what Jamie tells her mom about washing her socks and why by picking up a copy of There’s a Robot in my Socks which reminded me a lot of Charlie who has Social Anxiety and helped me learn more about my son and why he does certain things.

Press Release:

Filled with catchy rhymes and lively illustrations, There’s a Robot in my Socks [4U2B Books & Media, September 17, 2024] by mom and best-selling author Meredith Rusu is the perfect read-aloud for kids, parents, and grandparents who might discover they have robots that get nervous about change—and that’s okay!

As kids have returned to school, it’s inevitable that routines will be disrupted and new plans will be made. There’s a Robot in my Socks is the perfect addition to back-to-school reading that gives kids the vocabulary to share their feelings about the unpredictability of a new school year and new schedules.

In this second title of the award-winning Mighty Moods series, children will laugh out loud at the robot’s antics and perhaps see themselves in Jamie’s need to have everything go “perfectly.” And grownups will appreciate the wink and nod to the fact that change can be hard for them too—and they might have robots of their own!

Meredith Rusu is the best-selling author of more than one hundred children’s books for beloved franchises such as LEGO, Disney/Pixar, Bluey, and Captain Underpants. She is the creator of the  Mighty Moods series that features rhyming stories and wacky creatures who help children, parents, and caretakers learn to embrace big feelings in constructive ways to become joyful, compassionate, and brave. The first Mighty Moods book, There’s a Yeti in My Tummy, won first place in the Fall 2023 BookFest Awards earning it billboard placement in Times Square.

Rusu is available for interviews, Q&A’s, and byline articles around the launch of There’s a Robot in my Socks to discuss/write on topics including:

The “Robot” – Using larger-than-life creatures to help children understand and express how they feel. And Jamie’s Robot speaks to the special bond kids form with their grandparents when they feel separation anxiety from their moms and dads.

Robots, and Yetis, and Mighty Moods,  oh my!  Social emotional learning during their early years has a powerful impact on childrens’ social relationships. The Mighty Moods series embraces that and tries to help children identify with these “big” emotions so they have a new way of thinking about them and can in turn grow through them.

It Takes a Village – Grandparents hold a unique role in children’s emotional development. Even the most anxious child can feel comforted by a safety net of knowing they’re protected by the grownup that raised their grownup.

“Rusu perfectly captures the black and white thinking of childhood… there’s a deeper message here, too, and adult readers will relish the valuable lesson that a little grace can go a long way. [A] playful depiction of how to handle life’s curveballs (and robots!).”
