🌮 TAC0 TUESDAY: EVERYTHING BECOMES A TACO (START HERE)

Cooking Everything Becomes A Taco: Taco Tuesday Food

Taco Tuesday #TacoTuesday is something I’ve heard about forever it seems. For our family Taco Tuesday didn’t start as a recipe. It didn’t start as a trend. It started in real life. On nights when dinner had to happen fast. When the budget was tight. When there was only about 30 minutes to make something work and still get everyone to the table.

Taco Tuesday because a staple when Charlie was little and we had a room full of boys gaming and hungry and we need food fast. Pizza wasn’t something they wanted which is filling and fast and would feed a lot of people for a little bit of money.

That is when Taco Casa come into our family. They have a bag of Burrito’s or Tacos for a set price that would feed everyone and it was a food no, one argued about. Still to this day Taco Casa Tacos are one of my favorite foods. How about you?

And somewhere in that rhythm, something simple started happening in our kitchen. Everything became a taco to David. Weenies, fish sticks, chicken, steak, hamburger meat, leftovers that didn’t match anything but suddenly worked when wrapped in a tortilla. Flour or corn didn’t matter. Soft or crunchy didn’t matter as long as it was covered in a Tortilla David would eat it. Just no, onions please.

Because the goal was never perfection. The goal was always the table. Feeding hungry people. This comes from kitchens before us too. Grandparents who didn’t measure everything perfectly but still fed everyone. Tortillas warmed on stoves. Butter melting into them. Simple food that becomes memory.

That’s still how it is here. And no two tacos are ever the same in our home. David is always in the kitchen cooking, and every night turns out a little different depending on what we have and what feels right. Is it this way in your home?

Kids do in this family too—they teach us new things. Walking tacos, where chips become the bowl. But not only kids David’s mom introduced my family to Street tacos, simple and real. I introduced Charlie and David to Puffed Tacos. Every version changes how we see food.

Taco Tuesday is homeschooling life for those homeschooling, budget life, and family life all in one. Some nights are loud. Some are messy. Some are pajamas in the kitchen nights. But tacos still bring everyone together.

If you want to make Tacos with us it’s a pinch, a smidgen, and we always cook with a dash of love. Because just like my grandmother we cook with love, not measuring cups. How do you cook in your home and why?

We would like to invite you to join us each week as Taco Tuesday officially begins next Tuesday at 11:00 AM with Taco Chaos Night. Please bring your friends and family and favorite beverage and yes, pets are welcome to because they are part of the family and my dogs like the meat and cheese.
