Charlie and Bradley have been working about a week at the Airport and like there dad they love bringing home little gifts to surprise me with like David does. This time it isn’t snacks but all kinds of miniature bottles of condiments I can’t wait to try. Except I don’t want to open them.
Which is why there are some days when something so small ends up bringing a much bigger smile than you ever expected. At first, when the boys brought the food in I didn’t think much of it. Just a few random things here and there. But now it’s turned into this little collection of miniature foods sitting on my counter that I honestly look forward to seeing.
There’s just something about tiny things that makes life feel a little lighter. The first one that completely caught me off guard was a miniature bottle of Tabasco sauce. I knew David would love to have. I’ve seen hot sauce bottles my whole life, but nothing like this.
This bottle of Tabasco Sauce is so small I had to pick it up twice just to make sure it was real. It still had the full label, the full design, everything—just in a tiny version that fits right in your hand. It made me laugh because it was one of those “you have to see it to believe it” moments.
And then came more surprises. A habanero pickle sauce showed up next, both Bradley and David can’t wait to try. That is if I give it to them. This is the kind of thing you look at and immediately wonder if you’re brave enough to try. For me I’m not. How about you? This is one of those foods that feels like an adventure more than a snack. Something tells me it’s either going to be really good or really unforgettable.
Then the sweet side started appearing too. Little jars of strawberry preserves and jam, the kind Charlie would happily put on toast without hesitation. There was a honey jar that honestly might be my favorite just because of how simple and pretty it looks sitting on the counter. And then a small jar of orange marmalade that feels perfect for slow mornings, toast, and a hot cup of coffee or tea.
And of course… the one that made me laugh out loud. A tiny bottle of Heinz ketchup which quickly took the place of the Honey that had been my favorite. This bottle looks exactly like the full-size bottle of Ketchup everyone recognizes, just shrunk down into something almost too cute to take seriously. That one alone made me stop and just smile because it felt so unexpected and fun at the same time.
What surprised me most is how quickly this turned from “cute little finds” into something that actually feels useful too. Because as I started looking at them together, I realized these mini foods aren’t just adorable—they’re actually perfect for real life. They don’t take up space, they’re easy to pack, and they’re just enough for small meals, snacks, or adding flavor when you’re on the go.
And honestly, I keep thinking how much Charlie would absolutely lose it if there was a mini ranch bottle like these. That would make his day, his month, probably his whole year—because that’s the one thing missing from this whole little collection.
That’s when another idea hit me. These would make the sweetest Father’s Day Gift Basket for David with his favorite snacks and some bread with a jar of Peanut Butter he can keep inside his locker for a quick lunch where there is nothing he wants to eat at work.
You could take little mini items like these and build a whole themed basket around them. A mini hot sauce for grilling, a tiny ketchup for cookouts or lunches, spicy pickle sauce for snack lovers, and sweet jams or honey for breakfast mornings. It’s simple, thoughtful, and honestly kind of fun in a way that doesn’t feel overdone or complicated.
It also makes me think how perfect these would be for travel. Small bags, weekend trips, even quick snacks on the road—everything fits without taking up space or adding weight. It’s one of those ideas that just makes sense once you see it all together.
What started as random little surprises coming home from the airport has turned into something I didn’t expect at all. A small collection that somehow turned into a big idea, and maybe even a new tradition if Charlie and Bradley keep bringing them home. And I have a feeling this won’t be the last tiny surprise that shows up on my counter.
I just need to keep them all hidden or when my sister visits she will want to take them to show my niece and my nephew and that isn’t happening. They’re mine all mine and that is why I’m not showing them to David’s mom because she would want them for her grandkids.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
