Train Hidden Gems: A Family Slow Travel Guide to Unique Train Stations, Food, and Local Finds

North Richland Hills Toys

The other day while I was on Facebook, I came across a post about a new local bookstore called Troop’s Bookstore here in North Richland Hills, the small town I live in. I decided I wanted to go check it out and on David’s day off I asked him if we could venture over there and see what it was like.

When David and I pulled into the shopping center, we were both surprised to find Model Train Crossing next door to the Bookstore. David immediately wanted to go in there first, but he humored me and we went ahead and headed into the bookstore first.

We spent some time looking around Troop’s Bookstore which is one of those small, quiet places where you can just browse without feeling rushed. After that, David and I walked over to the model train shop. We walked inside but the store is so small it was hot so I stayed up near the door admiring all the train displays.

David wandered down the aisles looking at the trains and kept saying you need to see this or Charlie would have liked that. I ventured over to where David was and found a Toy Story Train Set my nephew David M. would have wanted when he was little. Then I found Thomas the Train which Charlie would have wanted.

I can tell you this place caught both of our attention right away and now we can’t wait to bring Charlie and Bradley back. It is packed with trains from there childhood—and they carry everything from beginner sets to very detailed collector displays.Being inside the store made both David and I want a train set for our home but there is no, place to put one.

If you know someone who collects trains there were train sets that were definitely more for collectors, the kind you just look at and admire because you know they’re not something you’re casually taking home. The whole store is so full that you really have to take your time walking through it because there is just so much to see in every direction.

If you’re out and about with your family and looking for something a little different to do, I really hope you check out this hidden gem in North Richland Hills. It’s one of those simple little stops that turns into more than you expect once you’re there
