All The Kitchen Essentials You Will Need to Get Through University

Moving out of your house to attend university in a new city is a big deal. It’s probably the first time you are going to be living on your own! But with the sweet smell of independence comes a great deal of responsibilities. You can no longer depend on someone else to do your chores for you. There are several things that you will have to learn and take care of by yourself. One of these includes your daily meals. While eating out or ordering in food may sound like a convenient thing to do, it’s not always the healthiest. Eating out is also a more expensive choice, which can affect your student budget. So, if you want to witness everything that adulthood has to offer, try cooking your meals. Apart from the several benefits that come with it, the major ones include saving money, staying healthy and learning a new skill!

But first, you will need to set up your kitchen with basic uni kitchen essentials that will make cooking a breeze for you. Given below are a list of items that you will need to complete your student kitchen set:

1. Cutlery:
Yes, cutlery is one of the most important things you will be needing in your kitchen. A student kitchen should at least have basic cutlery like knives, forks, teaspoons and tablespoons. Don’t forget to keep extras with you for when you have friends over!

2. A Set of Knives:
For all your chopping needs, a good set of knives is a kitchen must-have. You don’t need them to be of professional quality, just good enough to get you through basic chopping every day. You can even work on improving your chopping skills with these.

3. Chopping Board:
There will be a lot of chopping involved if you’re planning to follow a healthy diet. A chopping board is a necessity that is often ignored. Chopping your veggies on your kitchen platform or any other surface will only make it more tedious and messier. A chopping board will smoothen the process for you.

4. Pots and Pans:
If you’re going to be cooking, you will need cooking utensils. Make sure you include a saucepan, a crockpot and a few more basic utensils in your kitchen set. Having these will give you the liberty to cook a variety of dishes with ease.

5. A Few Mugs:
If you’re a coffee/tea lover, this must be a priority. These mugs are also a good investment for when you invite friends over. They can also be used to make quick microwave desserts to satisfy those late-night hunger pangs!

6. Crockery:
Now that you are going to be living on your own, showing off your new home to your friends is a given. And if you’re going to be having friends over, you will also be feeding them, for which you will need crockery. So, investing in a good crockery set is always a wise idea.

7. Tupperware:
When you’re a university student, leftovers become a part of your life. Be it cooking a large batch or extra food that you ended up ordering, you’ll always have food left in the kitchen. To accommodate all the leftover food, we suggest investing in Tupperware containers. Get them in various sizes to suit all your needs.

8. Dish Towels:
The kitchen happens to be a place that tends to get wet and messy all the time due to the constant use of water. Having dish towels in your kitchen will prevent you from making a mess that comes with washing the dishes.

Miscellaneous

A vegetable peeler, a whisk, a bottle opener, a pizza cutter, a cheese grater, a colander and a garlic peeler are a few things you can keep in your kitchen to make life easier for you. These small things can make a big difference in your life, so investing in them is always a good idea.

Having the above items in your kitchen will make your life surprisingly smoother and easier. So, you don’t have to rely on takeaways anymore!
