August 27 National Pots De Creme Day #NationalPotsDeCremeDay

Cooking Holidays Recipes

Parents are supposed to know everything or at lest Charlie thinks David and I should know everything. But that isn’t the case and its fun when I can learn something alongside my son which is what I did with today’s Holiday.

August 27th is National Pots De Creme Day #NationalPotsDeCremeDay which I had no, clue what Pots De Creme Day was and I had to look it up which was a #teacingmoment for my family. If you don’t know what Pots De Creme Day is I’ve included a definition below and a recipe for you.

National Pots De Creme Day is a French dessert which translates to “pot of custard” or “pot of cream”.

I was thinking about making Pots De Creme for our family to try. If we had been #Homeschooling still Charlie could have made Pots De Creme in his #Homeschool Cooking Class and you could do the same with your students.

Recipe for Pots De Creme Day

🍮 Ingredients (Serves 5)

  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • Dash of salt
  • ¾ cup half-and-half cream
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: whipped cream and fresh fruit for garnish

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the egg, sugar, and salt. Whisk in the cream.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches 160°F and coats the back of a spoon.
  3. Remove from heat and whisk in the chocolate chips and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Pour into small dessert dishes or ramekins.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight until set.
  6. Garnish with whipped cream and fruit if desired.

This version is simple yet decadent, and you don’t need a water bath or oven—just stovetop magic and patience while it chills.

If you would like to try a variation with dark chocolate or espresso? I’ve got ideas! Just leave me a comment and I will share the recipes with you.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
