Be Kind: A Year of Kindness, One Week at a Time (Everyday Inspiration)

This is a review for Be Kind: A Year of Kindness, One Week at a Time (Everyday Inspiration). The thoughts in this review is mine and mine alone.

With the world at a standstill and not being able to go outside. Now, is the best time ever to share a little bit of kindness with everyone you know. Including yourself.

Even though were asked to stay at least 6 feet away from anyone you can still put together snacks for the elderly and drop them off on there porch. Or hang positive messages up in your front yard for people to see when they drive by.

Call someone on the phone just to tell them you love them. Write a letter and mail it to your friends and family. You can even send letters to the people in your home.

Through Be Kind: A Year of Kindness, One Week at a Time (Everyday Inspiration) Charlie and I ‘ve started a bucket list of ideas to do once we are allowed to go outside because kindness should be shared every single day of the year.

  • Produced in partnership with the nonprofit organization kindness.org, Be Kind emboldens you to try an act of kindness every week for a year, benefiting others and yourself while deepening connections in your community big and small.

Each of the 52 weeks of kindness includes a dose of inspiration (a story about when a small act of kindness, an authentic personal gratitude letter that had a big impact, a Q&A, or a quote from a notable thinker); a fascinating statistic or fact about kindness that has been researched by Kindlab, the research arm of kindness.org (e.g., Kindness improves the well-being of both the giver and the receiver.); and a suggestion for an act of kindness to do in one of the following areas:

  • Kindness toward those around you (service workers, colleagues, neighbors)
  • Kindness to self
  • Kindness with kids
  • Kindness as a group
  • Kindness to the environment
  • Cyber-kindness

Fully illustrated, engaging, and inspiring, Be Kind will have you changing not only yourself and your communities, but also the world, one week at a time.

How to Use This Book

Be Kind takes the three elements of our mission, to educate and inspire people to choose kindness, and lays it out in a guide for you to experience a year of kindness, week by week.

Each of the fifty-two weeks includes a relevant research finding (learn), a reflection on the impact of kindness (reflect), and a kind act suggestion (do). There are also quotes from notable thinkers scattered throughout and a notes section in the back for jotting down thoughts, ideas, and more. We designed this book to be read one week at a time. Of course, no matter how you choose to experience this book, whether you read it cover to cover or dip in and out of it when the mood strikes you, we hope you use it as a reference and a reminder of all the good out in the world and how you can help contribute to it.

Finally, we’re here to support you! If you have a question or suggestion, reach out. Join us in building a database of Recommended Kind Acts and ultimately help build a kinder world.

About the Author

Jaclyn Lindsey, co-founder and CEO of kindness.org, believes that kindness is humanity’s greatest asset. It was this ethos that inspired her to launch kindness.org, a global non-profit building evidence-based programs for kinder classrooms, communities, and workplaces. Jaclyn has spent over a decade in the nonprofit space, where she’s helped raise more than $100 million for domestic and international missions. An author and keynote speaker, she sits on the board of Children in Conflict and is an advisor to Creative Mint and Expectful. When not whiteboarding ways to use kindness for good, Jaclyn loves adventuring around with her husband, Mancel, and son, Abel, and spending time with family, friends, or strangers around a dinner table.

Melissa Burmester, co-founder and chief product officer of kindness.org, loves asking questions and building teams to solve complex problems. She is an author, keynote speaker, and start-up advisor. Throughout her career, she has produced content from eight different countries, conducted countless interviews, and amassed over 160 million video views. Working closely with kindness.org’s research team to study the impact of kindness, Melissa helps leverage their findings to create new programs that can be implemented in schools and workplaces. She avidly believes that kindness transcends difference. Outside of work, Melissa is passionate about volunteering at organizations focused on disaster relief, education, and ending childhood hunger. You can catch her hosting living room dance parties with her young daughter every Saturday morning.
