The National Comfort Day is celebrated 5th of December every year. This day Holiday gives recognition to comfort food – basically anyone’s favorite food. We love to eat comfort food whenever we feel sad or we want to lift our spirits up. Some common comfort food includes desserts like Cakes or Ice Creams. Pizzas are great comfort foods. But everyone really has their own definition of what a comfort food is. If you want a day where you can indulge yourself into eating your favorite comfort foods, then you should not miss the celebration of National Comfort Food Day

About the National Comfort Food Day

During National Comfort Food Day, people conduct various activities that let them achieve the objectives or purposes of the celebration. For one, people try to indulge themselves into eating their favorite comfort foods by preparing them. Other people prefer to dine in a restaurant that serves comfort food or buy food for delivery. People also shout out on Social Media how they’re participating in the celebration of the event.

History

With limited knowledge about the origins of comfort foods, even less is known about the History of National Comfort Food Day. We don’t know when, where, or how this Holiday began. We also don’t have a clue as to who founded the Holiday. But still, we can make a good guess as to why such event was established in the first place. Perhaps a person or a group of people thought that comfort foods are much loved by the people. They must have then thought Comfort Food deserves a spot in the list of food Holidays celebrated every year.

The following are the best things to do in a celebration of the National Comfort Food Day:

Make Your Favorite Desserts

As mentioned earlier, many desserts fall into the category of comfort foods. If desserts are your comfort foods, then you should make prepare those foods including Ice Creams, Cakes, and Pastries. You can also prepare different flavors of Pies. Think about your favorite desserts and prepare them today. Then indulge yourself into eating as much as possible.

Prepare Any Comfort Food of Your Choice

If desserts are not your comfort food, then you can make any dish that you consider a comfort food.

Dine in a Restaurant that Serves Your Favorite Comfort Food

If you don’t have time to prepare your own comfort food, you can just go to a restaurant, or any place that serves the foods you consider comfort foods. It would be nice if you go alone but it’s more fun if you can go with your loved ones.

Celebrate on Social Media

You can also take your celebration to Social Media and use the hashtag #NationalComfortFoodDay to let your friends and followers know why you are participating in the celebration of this Holiday.

  1. Comfort food is traditionally defined as a food that is sentimental to the consumer.

2. The term comfort food has been traced back to at least 1966, when Palm Beach Post used it in a story.

3. Psychological studies have turned up evidence that comfort foods we crave are actually artifacts from our pasts.

A 2005 Cornell University Survey of 277 men and women found that females tend to seek comfort in sweet and sugary foods like Ice Cream, while males prefer savory comfort foods like Steak and Soup.

Repeal of Prohibition Day*

Back in 1933, following the signature of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the United States ended its 13-year experiment with the increasingly unpopular Nationwide Prohibition of Alcohol, meaning, it’s National Repeal Day on December 5th! If you enjoy Alcohol, then this is a great opportunity to celebrate your legal freedom to consume it. While popular opinion tends to suggest that Prohibition failed, Prohibition did succeed in cutting overall Alcohol consumption in half during the 1920s. Giving a dangerous, flapper-style edge to the consumption of Alcohol in illegal Speakeasies also may have contributed to a whole cult around Alcohol consumption, further glamorizing it. If there’s one thing we really like when we’re consuming Alcohol, it’s an element of glamor!

NATIONAL REPEAL DAY ACTIVITIES

  1. Many former Speakeasies have since turned into regular bars in Cities across the Country, which means you can book a party and throw a 1920s-themed party for your friends without worrying about the police showing up, unless things get out of control.
  2. Moscow Mules, Margaritas, Martinis, Manhattans, Daiquiris, Negronis, Old Fashioneds, that’s seven cocktails we listed, which should be enough to see even a pretty sturdy horse off for the evening. Why stay stuck in a rut when there are all these fascinating combinations to try!
  3. There are an increasing number of Cocktail practitioners learning the art of Mocktail making, and whether you’re the designated driver or simply moderating your intake for any reason, we do recommend checking out some of the amazing flavor combinations of non-alcoholic drinks. Particularly if it’s getting late and you’re having that conversation about whether one more drink is a good choice.

WHY WE LOVE NATIONAL REPEAL DAY

  1. The repeal of the 18th Amendment is the only National Holiday written into our constitution, following passage of the 33rd Amendment in 1933. That means you’re practically doing your Patriotic duty by celebrating this Holiday, which is one of many good excuses you can use for showing up bleary-eyed for work tomorrow morning!
  2. Flappers were women known for their unconventional style and behavior, with their own hairstyles and ways of dressing including short skirts. We love the Flapper look, and are inspired by the feminist and empowering messages that go with it. Did you know men also dressed better in the 1920s, including Suspenders and Pinstripe Suits.
  3. To be honest, we enjoy drinking Alcohol in all forms. Apart from the relaxing effect, we’re suckers for those articles saying drink a glass of red Wine because it helps reduce your risk of developing Heart Disease, Stroke, or Diabetes. So that’s three glasses of Red Wine we’re allowed to drink, just for its health benefits. Then there are Cocktails and beer.
