Did you know today is Food Holidays: March 23rd National Chips and Dip Day? I didn’t yesterday when I was in the store or I would have picked up Chips and Dip for Charlie to snack on.

Although, if it was in our home I would have wanted some as well. Even though I know I can’t have it because of my diet. But if I went walking after eating couldn’t I have a bite of two?

Tips about Chips & Dips:

Did you know the potato chip was first invented in 1853.

Dips for chips first become popular in the 1950s serving as finger food.

Hummus, as part of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines for centuries, did not appear in the United States until after World War II.

Do you like Humus? I don’t and David does a little bit. But Charlie and his grandmother love Humus with Pretzels.

It takes 10,000 pounds of potatoes to make 3,500 pounds of potato chips. Could you imagine if you had to peel all those potatoes which I don’t know if they leave the skin on or not. Do you know?

Dips can be classified as salsa, guacamole, cheese dip (Nacho Cheese), hummus, olive dip – or anything that can be made into a dip.

Homemade Ranch Dip

Ingredients

Select All

1 cup mayonnaise

1 cup sour cream 

1/2 cup buttermilk 

3 tablespoons chopped chives 

1 tablespoon white wine vinegar 

1 teaspoon dried dill 

1 teaspoon salt 

6 sprigs fresh flat-leaf parsley, leaves only, roughly chopped 

4 cloves garlic 

4 to 8 dashes hot sauce 

Directions:

Add the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, chives, vinegar, dill, salt, parsley, garlic and hot sauce to a food processor and pulse to combine. Chill the Ranch Dip then eat.

FRITOS® SCOOPS!® Corn Chips

French Onion Dip:

Ingredients 1 c.

sour cream 1 tbsp.

dried chopped onion 1 tsp.

onion powder 1

pinch garlic powder 1/4 tsp.

salt 1 tbsp.

finely chopped fresh parsley, or 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Directions

Place sour cream in a small bowl. Add dried onion, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and parsley. Mix together very well until completely uniform. Taste with a chip and adjust seasonings if necessary.

Refrigerate for 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld and the dried onion to soften. Store in the refrigerator for 5–7 days.

Other than these two dips all Charlie and I eat is Frito Bean Dip although David likes Pace Picante Sauce. As for chips Charlie and I prefer Frito Scoops for dipping. Although, I’ve used Lays Classic and Ruffles. Charlie sometimes with use Doritos if he can’t find something else.
