Front Porch Homeschool Series Recap: Looking Back at Our Journey + Free Homeschool Planning Printable

For my family, there are seasons in life that stay with us forever more times than not. Some of those memories take me back to when I was homeschooling Suzanne, and then I fast forward, to when I was homeschooling Charlie. When I look back now, those years were never just about lessons on paper or checking boxes on a schedule. They were about life happening in the middle of everyday moments.

Even though our homeschool days are behind us now, the lessons we learned around our neighborhood, gathered around our kitchen table, during field trips, and in the quiet moments reading together on the couch or sitting outside on the porch are still with us. Those everyday experiences shaped who we are as a family more than I ever realized at the time.

That is one of the reasons I still enjoy sharing homeschool content here on TheMommiesReviews.com. These stories matter to me, and I hope they matter to you too. My hope is always that something my family shares will help another parent feel a little less alone, a little more encouraged, and maybe even give them an idea they can use in their own home.

This post wraps up Part 5 of our Front Porch Homeschool Series, but it also brings everything together so you can go back and read each piece in order if you missed one or want to revisit them. This series has been about real life homeschooling. Not perfect. Not polished. Just real families doing the best they can with what they have.

In the first part of the series, I shared why I still talk about homeschooling even though our homeschool years are behind us. Those years shaped our family in ways I still see today, and I know there are other parents walking that same road right now, wondering if what they are doing even matters. It does.

In the second part, we talked about ADHD and learning disabilities and how every child learns differently. Some children need more time, some need more patience, and some just need someone to believe in them when school feels too hard. I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to slow down and meet a child where they are instead of where we think they should be.

In the third part, we talked about homeschooling on a budget. Because the truth is, homeschooling doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Some of the best learning happens in everyday life. Libraries, thrift stores, Dollar Tree finds, free printables, nature walks, and simple conversations can teach just as much as any expensive curriculum.

In the fourth part, I shared about the support system behind homeschooling. Because no family does this alone. Whether it’s a spouse, a grandparent, or a friend who steps in to encourage you when the days feel long, those people matter more than we often say out loud.

And in the fifth part, I simply wanted to encourage parents. There will be hard days. Days when nothing goes right. Days when you question everything. But those days don’t define your journey. Love, patience, and showing up do.

As I wrap up this series, I also want to leave you with something practical you can actually use in your home. So I created a simple Homeschool Planning Printable that you can print as many times as you need and use throughout your year. Nothing fancy. Just something to help you stay organized in your own way.
