Get Up, Stand Up: (Preschool Music Book, Multicultural Books for Kids, Diversity Books for Toddlers, Bob Marley Children’s Books) (Bob Marley Adapted by CEDELLA MARLEY ; BOB MARLEY ; JOHN JAY CABUAY by Chronicle Books. Based on the song by Bob Marley and I received a copy of the book in exchange for this review.

Get Up, Stand Up takes the classic Bob Marley song and turns the song into an anthem to help children learn to advocate for themselves and stand up to others and for others when necessary. The illustrations inside Get Up, Stand Up is vibrant and fun. The illustrations showcase common scenes a child might encounter at school including bullies, being left out of games, and so much more.

The only bad part about Get Up, Stand Up is when I try to sing the lyrics myself, because Charlie and David say I sing worse than a Kitten in heat. Which if you ask me and the Dogs isn’t true as they like my singing or at least think they do. The storyline will help children learn how to get along with others.

Get Up, Stand Up is a colorful book with multicultural representation. I wanted Charlie and David to read this book because my family is Bob Marley fans. Once we finished reading Get Up, Stand Up I had Charlie play the song in our Homeschool Music Class and we discussed how the song and the book was the same but also different.

Charlie and David said Get Up, Stand Up is for younger children although I believe its for anyone who is a fan of Bob Marley or has dealt with bullying or being left out. I believe Get Up, Stand Out should be in all school libraries and in all Music Classes including High School as children should know more about Bob Marley and his music and how it can help others in not only their lives but friends and family as well.

Bob Marley’s music has inspired millions of listeners around the world with messages of peace, love, and truth. This third picture book adaptation of one of his beloved songs has a timely message for children: To counter injustice, lift others up with kindness and courage. As a young girl goes on with her day in school, she comes across several instances of teasing and intimidation.

But with loving action and some help from her friends, she’s able to make things right for herself and others. With exuberant pictures by John Jay Cabuay accompanying Marley’s iconic lyrics, Get Up, Stand Up is a vibrant testament to the power we all have to make a difference. No, matter what is happening in the world.
