Homeschool Resources: Drivers Ed

In December Charlie will be 16. Where did the time go? My plan was to always get Charlie a Hard-Ship License when he turned 15 so he could drive his grandparents around but the LORD had other plans for Charlie.

Teaching your teen to drive can be a daunting task, but it’s important to remember that you’re not alone. Millions of parents have gone through this before, and there are plenty of resources available to help you along the way. Now that Charlie has decided to Homeschool again this year I’ve decided to add Drivers Ed to our classes. Once Charlie finishes he will be able to get a car and a job. THANK THE LORD!!

Here are a few tips to get you started:

  1. Start early. The earlier you start teaching your teen to drive, the more time they’ll have to practice and develop good driving habits.
  2. Be patient. Learning to drive takes time and practice. Don’t get discouraged if your teen makes mistakes. Just be patient and keep practicing.
  3. Set a good example. Teens learn by watching the adults in their lives. Make sure you’re setting a good example by following all the rules of the road and driving safely.
  4. Make it fun. Learning to drive should be a positive experience for both you and your teen. Make sure to keep things fun and relaxed, and praise your teen for their accomplishments.

Here are some additional tips for teaching your teen to drive:

  • Start in a safe, low-traffic area, such as an empty parking lot.
  • Teach your teen the basics of driving, such as how to start the car, use the turn signals, and change lanes.
  • Practice driving in different conditions, such as at night, in the rain, and on the highway.
  • Talk to your teen about the importance of safety and following the rules of the road.
  • Set clear expectations and rules for your teen’s driving.
  • Be patient and understanding. Learning to drive can be a stressful experience for both you and your teen.

With a little patience and effort, you can help your teen become a safe and responsible driver.
