I Am Musical: Adventures of Waffles

My family would like to introduce you to the children’s book I Am Musical: Adventures of Waffles by  Barbara Brown (Author) Anna Laera (Illustrator). I was supposed to have received a physical copy of I Am Musical: Adventures of Waffles in exchange for this review. The book didn’t arrive which was a Godwink,

Charlie had gotten to the point he wouldn’t leave home but he needed a book to read for Homeschool. I also needed a book and decided to visit Barnes & Noble so we could brows the shelves. While we were in the store I went into the children’s section picked up a copy of the book.

As part of Charlie’s Homeschool Home Economics course this year Charlie will be helping children learn to read. This week Charlie asked the students which book they would like to hear. My niece Lily picked out I Am Musical: Adventures of Waffles.

In the book you will see Waffles doesn’t actually play musical instruments which surprised Lily. Waffles listens to the music around him and shares the music he hears. Because like Charlie and I he doesn’t play a instrument, and he can’t sing and Charlie and I can’t carry a tune to save our lives even though I like to sing.

Charlie and I laughed and cried and we couldn’t put the book down. I believe you will fill them same way when you begin to read I Am Musical: Adventures of Waffles. A children’s book for younger children but adults will enjoy the story just as teenagers who will be reminded that you do not have to play a instrument to be musical which is a teaching lesson.

David and Charlie both feel in love with Crouton a Waffle and David’s dream dog. Which we can look up and study adding to Charlie’s homeschool lessons. My family will be sharing I Am Musical: Adventures of Waffles with everyone we know. If you know of a teacher especially a music teacher purchase a copy for them.

As your reading the book and questions are being asked make sure you take the time to ask and discuss the questions with your children which will prolong the time you have with them and keep them off electronics for a little bit.

About:

Author Barbara Brown is a Cuban-American elementary teacher in New Jersey, Barbara Brown is on a mission to provide children with a chance to view themselves as essential and meaningful contributors to our musical culture, regardless of their musical abilities.

I Am Musical: Adventures of Waffles is a delightful tale about Waffles, a feisty and funny dog who believes she is musical despite being unable to play an instrument, sing, or compose. Crouton, Waffles’ Corgi best friend, spends a day trying to understand how she could be musical when all she does is create musical chaos wherever she goes. The story presents an opportunity for children to recognize themselves as valued and significant contributors to music culture, regardless of their traditional musical abilities.

As children embark on their journey back to school, where they are likely to engage in some form of musical curriculum,   I Am Musical: Adventures of Waffles serves as a reminder that music is a universal and all-encompassing art form, belonging to each and every one of them!

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
