I would like to share a fun book about life in our 20’s called Industry Friends by Casey Dexter that I received a PDF of from Voracious Readers in exchange for this review. I love finding books that I can relate to and Industry Friends does exactly that by reminding us what our 20’s could have been like. Reading a book like this makes me miss my daughter Suzzane more than usual because the story is set in New York City which Suzzie had a chance to visit and would be able to share what she knew about the City with what the Author had written.
Olivia, the main character, has started a new life in NYC and works in the TV Industry. Her hard work is all-consuming and unappreciated. I could see my friends and family identifying with her roller coaster journey to find balance in her life Like all of us we see her dealing with jobs, careers, relationships, life changes, disappointment, family, and the people in her life.
Industry Friends is a highly relatable story sharing the twists and turns that two very close sisters, experience as life happens. Reminding me of my relationship with my sister. Through the story we learn early in our adult years that nothings easy allows us to grow providing us with confidence and the awareness that change will happen and that you can adapt to change. Another facet of the book I loved was that it deals with TV which I love.
About the book:
When Olivia thinks her career has finally come together, her surrounding world falls apart.
Set in the entertainment industry of New York City, Casey Dexter’s Industry Friends takes readers deep inside the 25-year-old mind of Olivia, a production assistant at Atlas Broadcast Group. On the cusp of a promising career, Olivia struggles to find balance between her personal life and her job in the gritty, and sometimes hilariously shocking, top television network.
Just when Olivia thinks things are going her way, a series of unexpected events unfold and she sees her life spiraling out of control. With the New York City life she so carefully curated forever changed, Olivia finds herself alone and questioning her every move. Will she survive the trials that the industry has in store for her? Or will her dream job forever remain a dream?
Industry Friends speaks to twenty-somethings, career go-getters, and all those faced with the challenge of rediscovering themselves. Whether you like reading about entertainment, behind-the-scenes life in television, the thrills of New York City, or want to feel better about your dating life, Industry Friends is for you.
