John Wayne An American Experience

My family was blessed with tickets to visit John Wayne An American Experience. What better day to visit than September 11th the day the world stopped turning which was a icon in American History just as John Wayne is to so many.

We arrived at the Museum and the gentleman checking everyone in was so kind and so knowledgeable. As we walked in there is a Film that last about 3 minutes and you will not want to stop without watching it as the story is told by his son.

I’ve followed John Wayne since I was a child as he is my dad’s favorite Actor of all times. As the film begin I found myself hearing things I had never heard. Then I walk into the Exhibit expecting to just stay for a hour as that is how long the gentleman says it takes you to walk through.

But I believe I could have stayed all day and not seen or read everything they had for us to look through. As well as watching the Videos that were showing. Including clips from the I Love Lucy show my daughter would have enjoyed seeing if she was here with us.

Homeschooling a student were allowed to think outside the boxes and I believe every parent should add John Way An American Experience to there Field Trip List. I have so many questions running through my head for Charlie to study this year from American Television, John Wayne and the Wild West with the Fort Worth Stockyards all thrown in thanks to this wonderful Museum.

Charlie was surprised to find mention of Cancer throughout the Museum and that in the Gift Shop is merchandise you can purchase that donates a portion to Cancer which is his grandmother passed away from made Charlie stop and think how much John Wayne did for the World.

As I walked through the Museum all I kept thinking was I wish my dad had still been here to come with me. Or I should have brought David’s parents especially his dad David Sr. who loved John Wayne just as much as my dad did. When my brother visits next month I would like to bring him back.

Charlie was surprised to see all the books featuring John Wayne in the Gift Shop include a children’s coloring book. While I was more surprised to find a Album that John Wayne had made which I would like to add to my Music Collection for Charlie to listen to in our Music Class.

With Christmas right around the corner I found Cookbooks to purchase for David and Charlie for Christmas. Which Charlie can use in his Homeschool Cooking Class allowing Charlie to get to know John Wayne cooking style. As I was looking David let me know he can’t wait to return to purchase Coffee Cups for everyone he knows.

As we were leaving we saw Trigger the horse which lead to many discussions on the way home of who he was which will lead to even more Homeschool Lesson Plans. Along with pictures Charlie can create for our Homeschool Art Class including John Wayne car which Charlie can’t wait to research and learn more about.

About:

Sprawling over 10,000 square feet, the John Wayne: An American Experience exhibit is structured to give you an intimate tour of the life of John Wayne. Starting with his early childhood and career, each room highlights an aspect of The Duke’s legacy. For the film aficionados, an extensive gallery called the “Life on Screen” highlights the most iconic film props and costumes. In the “America, Why I Love Her” gallery, guests can immerse themselves in patriotism through Grammy-nominated original poems, recited by John Wayne.

All patrons will have exclusive access to never-before-seen family photos and correspondences which have been thoughtfully curated by the Wayne family in order to give guests a holistic view of the icon, whose values translate both on the silver screen and off.

In addition to the exhibit, the space in the Stockyards features a 2,000 square foot retail space, which is stocked with limited-edition items including apparel, headwear, books, drinkware, fine art western photography, leather goods and western accessories.
