This is a review for a children’s book called Sing Out!: Six Classic Folk Songs for Tomorrow published by The Secret Mountain. I received a copy in exchange for this review but the thoughts in the review is mine and my families no, one else.

Homeschooling gives me the opportunity to teach classes I believe Charlie would enjoy. We get to use resources regular schools might not use. Which is why I am excited to share a new children’s book with you.

This week for our Music Class Charlie and I will be using Sing Out!: Six Classic Folk Songs for Tomorrow in a couple different ways. The first day Charlie and I will use the unique code for the digital download of the recordings and listen to the songs being played.

The second day Charlie and I will sit down and read the book and make a list of the words Charlie doesn’t know. Then on the third and fourth day we will practice singing the songs.

Then on Friday we will pick two of the songs out to sing to our parents. During the week we will be drawing what we see in the book to decorate our stage with.

For our snacks this week we will make cookies in the shapes of things we find in the songs. On Friday Charlie can invite his friends and family over to watch him perform.

I know once my nieces and nephews hear the songs they will ask there parents for a copy of Sing Out! which they can read at night as there bedtime story.

As Charlie is learning the songs I will be able to share stories of my childhood with him as I learned some of the songs in my Elementary Music Class.

About:

Folk songs such as “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain,” “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad,” and “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” take on lives of their own, becoming stand-alone stories featuring several zany characters, including an acrobatic pink-haired roller-skater girl, a straw hat-wearing unshaven hillbilly astronaut, a banjo-playing cow-loving weasel, and a hard-working monkey who happens to love dumplings!

The accompanying recordings of these popular sing-along songs for kids highlight gifted singers and seasoned musicians, producing a fresh original sound for a new generation. A unique code for the digital download of the recordings is also included.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
