Take Your Dog to Work Day is this Friday, June 25.

Take Your Dog to Work Day was Friday, June 25th but even though that date has passed I wanted to still share tips with you because a lot of us take our dogs to work al year long.

What should I consider before taking my dog to the office? – RSPCA Knowledgebase

We all know that allowing pets in the office creates an overall better place to work. During the pandemic many people worked from home and got to experience first-hand the benefits of working alongside their pets – which include reducing stress and improving overall health and well-being. And many of those employees don’t want that day-to-day contact with their pet to end.

As the new normal starts to take hold and people begin heading back to the office, will they be able to bring in that pandemic puppy or COVID kitten they adopted during the pandemic?

One thing is certain. for those who are still able to work from home, Take Your Dog To Work Day will continue to be celebrated and enjoyed every day!

If you are still working remotely with your furry companion and the backyard is your office these days, Trupanion, a leader in medical insurance for pets, offers five pet-friendly backyard safety tips to keep everyone safe…and productive, especially during these hot summer months.

 1. Keep the plants and flowers pet-friendly

It’s the great outdoors, so your pets may want to explore. For this reason, consider doing a little research on the best pet-friendly plants to have in your yard.
* Beware of lilies, sago palm, tulips, daffodils, and oleander as they are harmful to pets. The last thing you want is an unexpected trip to the veterinarian with your best friend.

2. Provide a space to rest and play

A pet-friendly backyard is a great way to let your best friend to adventure, play, and rest.
*Consider providing your pet with items like a cover or awning over their pet bed, fan, and outdoor toys.

3. Be mindful of toxic landscaping

Consider keeping your pet indoors and off your lawn for at least 24 hours after fertilizing the area.
* Some of the chemicals found in fertilizers may have long-lasting effects on your pet. Also, there are several eco-friendly lawn options that can help keep your furry friend in mind.

4. Keep your eyes peeled for pesky pests

Fleas and ticks can show up anytime and this includes in your own backyard.
* Consider giving your furry friend some relief with a year-round preventative. You don’t want the stress of a flea infestation or Lyme disease for your best friend.

5. Provide plenty of hydration

Water is incredibly important for dogs of all ages. Whether you’re lounging outside or enjoying a game of toss, your pet’s overall health is dependent on getting the proper amount of hydration.
*Consider keeping fresh water available in multiple areas of the yard. Also, for enrichment add items like a water fountain for extra stimulation during playtime.

Trupanion has always had dogs (and cats) as part of their workplace. In fact, having our dogs in the workplace is part of our DNA and a great reminder as to why we come into to work every day – to help loving, responsible pet owners budget and care for their pets.
