Charlie and I had the book laying on my dining room table to read together this morning but low and behold now Charlie isn’t feeling well. I picked up the book and loved the little girl on the cover of the book with her mom. I wish you could see the blue Butterfly flying around.
I’ve never seen a blue Butterfly, have you? In the book we meet Grandma Sylvia who is like a Butterfly and flitters everywhere. Before I continue my thoughts on the story there is plenty of #teachingmoments for our children including Charlie as we discussed what flittering was.
Victoria is packing for her grandmother’s, but she is anxious because she doesn’t know what will happen. Victoria rides the Train to her grandmother who is waiting for her at her train station. They go on so many adventures during the week it was hard to keep up with them.
On Friday Grandma had a new adventure planned for them. They go to the beach to swim. Wouldn’t that have been fun? Oh, no a currant pulls them apart. Grandma reminds Victoria to lean back and spread her wings, and she sings to them until they get to a safe spot.
I wish you had a copy of The Turquoise Butterfly so you could hear the song for yourself. On Saturday Grandma wasn’t feeling well but as the day went on, Grandma got better and they looked for Caterpillars. On Sunday it was time for Victoria to go home and see her mom.
Grandma reminded Victoria when she sees a blue Butterfly that she would be with her. Victoria planned new adventures for next Summer when she would go back to visit her grandma keeping her busy and less sad.
The next Summer Grandma was slower and used a walking stick and had to rest more. off to the Butterfly Grove they go on another adventure. If only we could go with them. Grandma and Victoria get lost but Victoria begins to sing and a Ranger finds them and helps them find there car.
On there last day the search the Gaden for a Chrysalis another #teachingmoment for Charlie. Victoria went home and the school year ended quickly. One day after school Victoria’s mom lets her know her grandmother has passed away but as long as she looks for Butterflys her grandmother will be close by just like with my daughter Suzzane.
The next Summer Victoria packs for Camp. Victoria arrives at Camp and a Butterfly fly’s past reminding her she is going to have fun. A Counselor takes Victoria to her Cabin, and she meets her Roomate Libby. Victoria knew things would be okay because they had the same shirt.
About the book:
Every summer, little Victoria travels to Grandma Sylvia’s house for a new adventure. Grandma embodies the spirit of a fearless butterfly, but Victoria is often filled with bubbling nerves, which leaves her confused and scared. Throughout Victoria’s many journeys over several summers, she navigates the winds of change with Grandma by her side with unwavering love and an unbreakable connection.
This extraordinary story is a celebration of eternal love and transformation, beautifully illustrating the profound bond between a grandmother and her granddaughter. Change can be embraced with courage and resilience, and the transformative power of love can bridge any gap. The Turquoise Butterfly explores our unique strengths and vulnerabilities in this heartwarming, multigenerational tale.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
