Garden Meditation Day

Today is the day to walk out to our garden and roll out our meditation mat. Then assume a Yoga position, because today is Garden Meditation Day.

Every gardener knows that gardening is good for the mind, body, and soul. Gardening is also known that meditation gives us inner peace and tranquility. Gardening helps us to connect with ourselves, and even nature. Garden Meditation Day is a merging of the values and benefits of gardening and meditation.

Per C.L, Fornari, the creator of this Holiday:

“Garden meditation day honors the fact that when we’re working in the landscape we have the opportunity, if we choose to take it, to let the rest of the world fall away. This is what meditation is: letting go of all thoughts, concerns, worries and focusing on just one thing in this case, what we’re doing in the garden. Gardening is as calming as a mantra, or focusing on the breath, to name two common forms of meditation. Those who seek a spiritual retreat, a calming yoga experience, actually have that in their own backyards!”

How can we celebrate and participate in Garden Meditation Day? Fornari suggests “Pick one thing to do which could be pulling weeds, planting seedlings, turning soil or spreading mulch. Go out with the idea that you’ll spend X amount of time on that task. Which could be 20 minutes or two hours. It doesn’t matter but be realistic on how much time you will work on the task. Leave your cell phone in the house. That’s right, leave your phone behind! As you work, focus only on what your task at hand is. When you notice other things that have to be done, thank your mind for mentioning those but tell yourself you’ll think about those tasks later. Turn your mind and body back to the one job at hand every time you’re distracted. At the end of your work, or when your time finishes, take satisfaction in what you’ve accomplished. Then take a deep breath and return to the world.”

For those of us who are already gardeners, you know this feeling well. For those of you yet to try your hand at gardening, use today to find the serenity, and therapeutic value of gardening.

If you aren’t lucky enough to have a garden, and have no way of creating one, here are places to do your meditation today:

  • An Arboretum
  • A Botanical Garden
  • A park

Lumpy Rug Day

Lumpy Rug Day is intended to appreciate a good rug. The rug should be smooth and not lumpy. Many of us stretch out on a rug to watch TV, or play games, and sometimes to nap. If the rug is lumpy, you’ll notice it.

There are a number of ways to enjoy Lumpy Rug Day:

  • If you have a lumpy rug, toss it out.
  • If you once had a lumpy rug, take a minute to remember the soft, comfortable feel of the rug when it arrived.
  • If you never had a lumpy rug, count your blessings.

National Teacher’s Day – Tuesday of first full week of May

Everybody who does something good, important, and valuable deserves a day in their honor. Teachers are among the most deserving. This day honors teachers for their hard work, patience and understanding because we entrust our children to them. Teachers mold our kids in a positive direction, affecting who our children become. From Kindergarten through college, teachers are an important part of our children’s lives.

If you happen to be a teacher reading and you are reading this, I offer my thanks. The future of America is in your hands.

There is not a lot on the net written about Teacher’s Day. But, every Ecard site has a selection of cards for you to send.
