Unique Holidays: January 16th, 2022

Good evening, welcome to our series sharing Unique Holidays: January 16th, 2022. Did you know today is Appreciate a Dragon Day? This is one Holiday both Charlie and David say they can sink their teeth into and if they would like to have a Dragon as a Pet and if the Dragon was like Puff the Magic Dragon, I would be all in for having a Dragon for a pet. What about you?

Appreciate a Dragon Day– this Holiday always takes place on January 16th.

All of us, young and not so young, can appreciate Dragons. You’ll find good and bad Dragons in legends, folk lore, children’s books, songs, and top movies.

According to Donita K. Paul, the creator of this Holiday, you are encouraged to learn and explore the cultural and historic significance of Dragons.

This Holiday is also intended to celebrate literacy. I encourage you to search for a book about Dragons and read it today!

Other ways to celebrate this day:

  • Draw pictures of Dragons.
  • Write Dragon poems or stories.
  • Invite your friends to help you host a Dragon Puppet show.
  • See a movie with Dragons in it. Charlie and I plan on watching Puff the Magic Dragon. Would you like to watch this movie with us?
  • Take a picture of stuffed Animal Dragons. If you see a real live Dragon, make sure to take a picture of him, too!
  • Go on a Field Trip to the Libraries and look for books on Dragons

Did you know the most famous Friendly Dragon is Puff the Magic Dragon?

National Nothing Day– Always January 16th.

National Nothing Day is quite simply a day for nothing.

This Holiday is an “un-event”. The expectation is that we do not create or otherwise promote this Holiday. In other words, we do nothing. And, to say anything more would contradict the purpose of this Holiday.

Celebrate this Holiday by doing nothing. Of course, that assumes that doing nothing is okay with your boss.

When we first documented this, we thought about creating a page with just the title “National Nothing Day” on it and nothing else. There would be nothing to see, nothing to do. You would be unable to navigate backward or forward. Then, our sanity returned.

History and Origin of National Nothing Day:

All we know about this Holiday, is that it was created in 1973 by newspaperman Harold Pullman Coffin.

Other than that, we understandably found nothing about this Holiday.

There is no evidence to suggest that Nothing Day is truly a “National” Holiday, which requires an act of congress. Even if it had been proposed to congress, they would have most likely done nothing.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
