National Macaroon Day

National Macaroon Day honors the Macaroon, a flourless Cookie. Macaroons are popular among the Jewish community, especially during Passover. When Jews cannot cook with Flour. The popularity of the Macaroon doesn’t stop there. Macaroon are enjoyed around the world.

Macaroons are made from Ground Nuts and leavened Egg Whites. Coconut and Potato Starch is common in Macaroon recipes. Macaroons were believed to have been first made in an Italian Monastery in 1792. Monks are well known for their vows of silence, they just couldn’t keep quiet about Macaroons.

Celebrate National Macaroon Day by baking and eating Macaroons. If your schedule is busy, stop by a bakery and purchase Macaroons.

Save Your Hearing Day

Save Your Hearing Day reminds everyone our hearing is vital, and needs to be protected.

Many hearing loss problems are avoidable. Hearing loss can result from a variety of reasons, including: health, genetic and environmental causes. On the environmental side, repeated long term exposure to loud, high decibel noises can overtime cause hearing loss. This is often avoidable.

Use Save Your Hearing Day as an opportunity to learn what you can do to avoid hearing loss to yourself, and practice it.

Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this holiday but we suspect a medical group or deaf association may have started this holiday.

One reader suggest that the following event may have something to do with the creation of this special day: “On May 31st, 1976, The Who played at the Charlton Athletic Grounds in England and made the Guinness Book of World Records as the loudest rock band ever. The Who’s musical performance measured 76,000 watts and 120 decibels. “

World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day brings awareness of the health issues and dependency issues related to Tobacco use. World No Tobacco Day stresses the importance of making people all over the world aware of the health dangers of Tobacco. It also stresses the addictive nature of Tobacco use.

 According to the World Health Organization’s website: The Member States of the World Health Organization created World No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the Tobacco Epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes. In 1987, the World Health Assembly passed Resolution WHA40.38, calling for April 7th,1988 to be a “a world no-smoking day.” In 1988, Resolution WHA42.19 was passed, calling for the celebration of World No Tobacco Day, every year on May 31st.

World No Tobacco Day is supported by medical organizations around the world. Many groups and organizations use this holiday to encourage individuals to quit Smoking. They promote education of the issues and dangers of using all forms of Tobacco.

The bottom line: If you smoke or chew Tobacco and kick the habit today. Your life depends on it!
