Wings Over Dallas WWII Airshow

Charlie, David and I were BLESSED when we was Gifted tickets to attend  Wings Over Dallas WWII Airshow. Charlie, David and I didn’t even know this Airport existed so it was fun to visit a new Place. I can’t wait to return for Dinner inside and sit and watch the Planes arrive and take off with Charlie and David.

Once we arrived and Charlie and David saw all the Planes I didn’t think I would be able to keep up with them. We went and checked in and went over the Map to see what all we wanted to do. David took off towards the Planes while Charlie headed for the Concession Stands.

I went over to look at the Booths selling Bomber Jackets and T Shirts as I wanted to get Charlie a jacket for Christmas. Charlie walked up and we begin to walk around and Charlie would ask me questions about the Planes and looking up things on Facebook.

Being a Homeschooling Family and having Charlie share facts with me and seeing how excited he was getting was a God send. David walked up they walked off to see a Plane Charlie wanted to show David. I stayed back to give them time together.

As I did I wandered around and found a Selfie-Booth selling War Bonds which I was able to explain to Charlie. I loved the house and the ladies sitting outside on the porch. There outfits was so cute. My favorite part of the day was seeing all of the lady pilots. I wanted to bring them home with me.

Charlie and David were so fascinated with all of the Trucks and Cars while I liked seeing the Campground set up which reminded me of a scene from the movie Mash. If Charlie and I could have I would have wanted to spend the night here with Charlie.

As we were getting ready to leave Charlie asked to go back through the Vendors Booths as he wanted to pick up Airplanes for him for his room. I can’t wait to see what all Charlie does with the Airplanes he purchased and how he uses them to decorate his room and in our Homeschooling Class.

Charlie liked having the Schedule hung up on the Fence because it was easier for him to follow than the Map. Picking out which events we wanted to see was so much fun and hearing people talk was one of the highlights of the day and I wish you had been there with us.

Charlie, David and I all had our favorite Planes and the one above was mine and below was Charlies. Seeing the Texas Dolls on a plan has lead to Charlie wanting to find out more about them and also Amelia Earhart and her journey as a Pilot. For Charlie I can’t wait to find more women for him to study as well. Which will lead us on a Field Trip to the Library. Would you like to come with us?

We ended up day having lunch at Delta Charlie’s Restaurant with David and if you haven’t been I hope you take the time to visit them soon. If your looking for a one of a kind Gift then you should check out the Dinner and Plan Ride they host. Which Charlie and I refuse to go on because were scared of Flying and heights bothers us.

This year’s featured performer is TORA TORA TORA, the aerial reenactment of Pearl Harbor. Aircraft featured this year include the B-29 Superfortress FIFI, B-24 Liberator Diamond Lil, C-47 That’s All, Brother, and B-17 Flying Fortress Texas Raiders

Fighter planes such as the P-51 Mustang, P-40 Warhawk, T-6 Texan, and more, will participate in aerial activities and historic reenactments of air battles, complete with pyrotechnic effects. Aerial activities will be supported on the ground by living history encampments that provide the authentic vintage military feeling and allow the crowd to step back in time. In addition, members of the Greatest Generation, including World War II veterans, will share their personal stories of service and sacrifice.

At the event’s Aviation Discovery Zone, students will be able to participate in hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities and explore various careers in aviation through simulated experiences. Students can earn rewards based on the completion of workstations including make-and-take riveting activities, flight simulators, pre-flight aircraft inspection check, and more.

Additionally, on Friday, October 29, Wings Over Dallas will host an “Education Day” providing thousands of area students with a chance to experience World War II history up close. This unique opportunity is free for teachers and students who register online and will feature living history displays, interactive exhibits and veterans who will share their story with students.

“We’re thrilled that Wings Over Dallas will be back this fall,” said Hank Coats, CAF President and CEO. “Since we did not have the show last year due to the COVID pandemic, this year our returning guests will notice the new Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center, the CAF’s 47,000 square foot facility that serves as a hub for our national educational outreach programs.

With the Commemorative Air Force’s National Headquarters located in Dallas, we’re proud that this local event is becoming the pre-eminent World War II themed airshow in the nation. And it is a homecoming show of sorts for our members who come from around the world to attend.”

“Frost Bank is honored to return as the presenting sponsor of the CAF Wings Over Dallas WWII Airshow,” said Frost Bank’s Dallas Region President, Rod Washington. “This living history experience honors the brave men and women who served our nation and their lessons of leadership, character and sacrifice. The event is also important for the continued development of southern Dallas and the entire north Texas region.”
