Workman Publishing

For those of us who have children in Middle School or High School I would like to introduce you to Workman Publishing. They have a series of books called Everything You Need To Ace and each book covers a subject like Math.

I found three of the books at our local Sam’s Club. After getting home and Charlie beginning to read Everything You Need to Ace Math in One Big Fat Notebook The Complete Middle School Study Guide and finding examples to use and work in the book I knew we would be able to pass 7th grade math.

For every middle school kid who has ever whispered, “Hey—can I borrow your notes?” there is the Big Fat Notebook series, a revolutionary study guide series created by the editors of America’s #1 educational bestseller Brain Quest. Each indispensable study guide is like getting to borrow the notebook of the best student in class, with highlighted key concepts, doodles that illuminate tricky ideas, mnemonics, and more.

It’s the revolutionary math study guide just for middle school students from the brains behind Brain Quest.

Everything You Need to Ace Math . . . covers everything to get a student over any math hump: fractions, decimals, and how to multiply and divide them; ratios, proportions, and percentages; geometry; statistics and probability; expressions and equations; and the coordinate plane and functions.

The BIG FAT NOTEBOOK™ series is built on a simple and irresistible conceit—borrowing the notes from the smartest kid in class. There are five books in all, and each is the only book you need for each main subject taught in middle school: Math, Science, American History, English Language Arts, and World History.

Inside the reader will find every subject’s key concepts, easily digested and summarized: Critical ideas highlighted in neon colors. Definitions explained. Doodles that illuminate tricky concepts in marker. Mnemonics for memorable shortcuts. And quizzes to recap it all.

The BIG FAT NOTEBOOKS meet Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, and state history standards, and are vetted by National and State Teacher of the Year Award–winning teachers. They make learning fun and are the perfect next step for every kid who grew up on Brain Quest.

The second book Charlie has is Everything You Need to Ace Science in One Big Fat Notebook. Along with a Science workbook featuring experiments from items you have in your home. I just Pray Charlie doesn’t blow up my home….

Everything You Need to Ace Science . . . takes readers from scientific investigation and the engineering design process to the Periodic Table; forces and motion; forms of energy; outer space and the solar system; to earth sciences, biology, body systems, ecology, and more.

The third book Charlie has from this series is Everything You Need to Ace Computer Science and Coding in One Big Fat Notebook. I thought that Charlie could try is hand at Coding since he likes to play Video Games and watch YouTube Videos.

This Big Fat Notebook makes it all “sink in” with key concepts, mnemonic devices, definitions, diagrams, and doodles to help you understand computer science.

Including:

  • Computing systems
  • Binary code
  • Algorithms
  • Computational thinking
  • Loops, events, and procedures
  • Programming in Scratch and Python
  • Boolean Expressions
  • Web development
  • Cybersecurity
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • …and more!

There is two more books in the Middle School series which Sam didn’t carry. I would like to see if I can locate for Charlie. Everything You Need to Ace English Language Arts in One Big Fat Notebook and Everything You Need to Ace American History in One Big Fat Notebook.

Using this series of books will allow me to teach Charlie subjects I wouldn’t have knew how to teach otherwise. If Charlie does return to Public School then he will be ahead and he wouldn’t struggle like he usually does.

You can purchase these books come in a set of 5 or 6 books online or separately which is how Sam’s sells them. If I purchase these for anyone else I will buy the set saving me money.

Then for High School children you can purchase Everything You Need to Ace Geometry in One Big Fat Notebook or Everything You Need to Ace Chemistry in One Big Fat Notebook.
