Food Holidays Recipes

May 16th is National Mimosa Day #MimosaDay with both David and I being sick for a while it would be nice to go out to dinner and have a drink together. Especially with our #Anniversary right around the corner. We could celebrate #MimosaDay. Would you want to celebrate National Mimosa Day with David and I this week?

If not then you should call all Brunch enthusiasts and Cocktail fanatics and let them know they should mark there calendars and that includes David who loves Mimosa’s because May 16th is National Mimosa Day!

Mimosa is a classic mixed drink, which is equal parts Brut Champagne and Fruit Juice (usually Orange Juice), has become a brunch staple and a popular drink at Weddings. Mimosa’s dates back to the 1920s and most likely got its name from the a yellow flower native to Australia. With a variety of ways to add a twist to this Cocktail, Mimosa’s are fun and easy to celebrate this drink we all find tasty.

National Mimosa Day Activities

  1. Mimosas and Brunch go together like Eggs and Bacon, Pancakes and Syrup, or Orange Juice and…Champagne. May 16th this year falls on a Thursday but don’t let a workday stop you from enjoying a Mimosa or two. If you can’t pull off brunch then have breakfast for dinner! The promise of French Toast and Mimosas will help you get through the day.
  2. Did you know Mimosas don’t always have to be made with Orange Juice? Try substituting a Mimosa with your favorite Fruit Juice instead. Cranberry, Grapefruit, and Blueberry Juices are great with Champagne. You can get creative and toss a few Berries or Fruit slices in as well to give your Mimosa extra flavor and make it look even prettier.
  3. If you are under 21 or would simply prefer a non-Alcoholic option then you’re in luck! Mimosas are just as tasty and refreshing when substituting Ginger Ale for Champagne. Sparkling Juices, including sparkling Apple Cider, are also good substitutes for Champagne.

Why People Love National Mimosa Day

Mimosas most frequently appear at Weddings, on flights for First Class Passengers, and the beloved brunch, but Mimosa are not limited to these occasions. Mimosas are great on a hot Summer day. Cozy snow days stuck in the house become even better when snuggled up with a Mimosa a lovely drink to have on holidays including New Year’s Eve. Mimosa is a great, year round drink that can make any occasion better.

Many Cocktails require several ingredients, including shakers, and other items that many of us don’t have in our kitchens. Making a Mimosa is quick and simple! Pour your chilled Juice of choice in a glass usually (a champagne flute and then pour in the Champagne and your Mimosa is done.

Despite how simple Mimosas are to make, there’s something about a Mimosa that just makes us feel classier. Maybe it’s the champagne flute, or the Champagne itself. Maybe it’s the pretty color and light, bubbly taste. Maybe it’s how pretty the name sounds. Whatever it is, a Mimosa can definitely elevate a “bubble bath” to a “luxury bath.”
