The Australian summer is only a few months away and now is the perfect time to make a few improvements. Let’s face it, we spend most of our summertime in our garden and with that in mind, here are a few ways that you can transform your outdoor living space.
- Sliding patio doors – Merge the house with the garden with tailored glass sliding doors from Australia’s leading window company. Double glazed, with toughened safety glass as standard, a set of sliding doors allows easy access to your terrace; open both doors and the party can really swing.
- Resurface the deck – You can order premium tongue & groove decking planks to transform your terrace. Quality timber that is treated with preservative and a varnish coat would be a game-changer, giving you many years of trouble-free use.
- Create a vertical garden – A green net, some string and plastic pots and you can create a stunning vertical garden. Cut plastic soda bottles in half and puncture a few holes in the bottom and you have your pots, hang them with zip ties and you’re good to go. Perfect for a bare expanse of wall, you can plant creepers and vines and train them to run along the net and you have the perfect natural screening.
- Conifer trees – A line of miniature or medium evergreen conifers; perfect next to a boundary fence, pruning and time will result in an attractive screen that adds depth and character to any space. Click here for bird netting solutions.
- LED lighting – Use LED strips and get creative; hang them from trees, stick them around window frames for a Disney-style ambience; Google can take you to a top site selling LED outdoor light fittings, with attractive colours. Ground-level lights along the pathway for safety; order a few of those ground lights you simply stick into a lawn, they are solar-powered and illuminate automatically as the sun goes down.
- Hanging chairs – The terrace is the relaxation zone and a couple of egg chairs hanging from the roof make for a comfortable seating arrangement. A hammock would be great if you have the space, nothing beats an afternoon siesta, gently swaying yourself to sleep.
- Power wash – Hire one of those power water machines and clean all hard surfaces; this will revert the driveway and paths to their original state, while you can also clean brickwork, render and stone. Invest in a reliable model and use it on a monthly basis to keep your exterior looking clean and fresh.
- Artificial grass – This is all the rage; no more cutting or watering and there is a choice of length. The supplier will install the grass for a non-slip solution and they even do pet-friendly products!
The exterior of your home offers a lot of potential and we hope the above ideas give you some inspiration to prepare your garden for the Summer.
Thank you,
